2 NDC Executives Remanded

Date:

A COURT at Nkawie has remanded two executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Suame Constituency into prison custody for two weeks for alleged assault.

They are Armstrong Owusu Agyeman, the Suame NDC Communication Officer and Baagi Zakariah Iddrisu, the Deputy Constituency Secretary.

The two NDC top officials were remanded on Wednesday and they are expected to appear in court again on March 4, this year.

The duo was among four people that reportedly manhandled the Suame Constituency NDC Chairman, Saeed Umar, in public without provocation.

During the fierce attack, the suspects, who wanted to snatch an NDC car from Saeed Umar, fired gunshots into the tyres of the party vehicle in public.

Two other suspects, Moro Siaka, NDC Deputy Treasurer for Suame and Baba Issah aka Baba Kotoko, a branch member of the NDC at Suame, are still on the run.

Reports monitored from the court indicated that lawyers for Baagi and Armstrong consistently pleaded with the court to grant bail to their wards.

They assured the presiding judge that Baagi and Armstrong would avail themselves whenever they are needed in connection with the case.

But the prosecution team also argued that since two of the suspects were still at large, if the court granted Baagi and Armstrong bail it would adversely affect investigations.

They therefore pleaded with the court to remand Baagi and Armstrong into prison custody so that they could promptly assist in investigations.

According to reports, the prosecution team said they also needed to investigate further to know the exact gun the suspects used to fire at the NDC chairman’s car.
