The national armwrestling team of Ghana, the Golden Arms, will compete in the 2026 World Armwrestling Championship scheduled for October 26 to November 7 in New Delhi, India.
The championship, organised by the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), is expected to attract about 1,500 athletes from across the world, offering Team Ghana the opportunity to test its strength against some of the best armwrestlers globally.
Ghana would participate with a nine-member squad buoyed by its impressive performance at the 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship held in Accra earlier this year.
The team includes world champion Grace Minta, world championship medalists Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo, as well as African champion Daniel Acquah.
The athletes are expected to combine experience, continental pedigree and emerging talent as Ghana targets another strong performance on the international stage.
As part of preparations for the championship, the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) would organise a national camping programme for selected athletes.
The training camp would focus on physical conditioning, strength development, technical and tactical training, recovery, discipline and mental preparation ahead of the competition.
The exercise would also enable the technical team, led by coaches Husseini Akueteh Addy and Nii Otu Larkyne, to assess the athletes and finalise selections for the various weight categories.
Mr Charles Osei Asibey, President of GAF, reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to providing Ghanaian athletes with opportunities to compete at the highest level.
He said participation in the World Championship formed part of the federation’s long-term strategy to develop elite athletes capable of winning medals at both continental and global competitions.
According to him, the New Delhi championship would serve as an important benchmark for assessing Ghana’s progress in the sport while also presenting another opportunity to compete for medals.
The federation has appealed to corporate bodies and state institutions to support the team’s participation as preparations gather momentum ahead of the championship.
