COVID-19 restrictions: VC appeals to Ghanaians to be law-abiding

Date:

Professor Harrison Kwame Dapaah, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), has advised Ghanaians to be law abiding, as the government takes steps to stem the spread of COVID-19.

“Everybody is at risk of this disease and we must all be disciplined and abide by the Presidential directives to control the spread of the disease,” he said.

“COVID-19 is no respecter of persons, positions or professions and knows no boundaries,” Prof. Dapaah stated when he interacted with Mr. Matthew Abeaba Abereniya, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Industrial Relations Officer (IRO) of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).

Mr. Abereniya was at University’s campus in Sunyani to assess the preparedness of the University towards the fight against the COVID-19.

“There is the need for every individual Ghanaian to do what is needful to support the government. The disease is a global fight which required concerted efforts”, Prof Dapaah stated.

The visit also took Mr. Abereniya to the Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical School, Sunyani Senior High School and the Sunyani Municipal and Bono Regional Directorates of the Ghana Education Service, as well as the Regional Library in Sunyani.

Though all the schools were closed down in accordance with the Presidential directives, other non-teaching staffs were still at post during the visit.

Mr. Abereniya called on the schools to provide the non-teaching staff on duty with Personal Protective Equipment.

He advised members of TEWU to adhere to restrictions by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and health officials to protect themselves from contracting the virus.
