COVID-19: AngloGold Ashanti disinfects health facilities and markets

Date:

The Obuasi Mine Malaria Control Programme of the AngloGold Ashanti, has disinfected health facilities and market centres in Obuasi as part of efforts to fight COVID-19 pandemic.

The exercise, which was conducted in collaboration with the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, involved health facilities and markets in both Obuasi Municipal and Obuasi East constituencies.

Mr Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Sustainability Manager of the AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine told the Ghana News Agency that, the company had activated its Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) and collaborating with the Municipal assembly to roll out several interventions to safeguard the people against coronavirus pandemic.

He said the exercise was part of efforts to put confidence in the people that they could go to any health facility to seek medical attention while conducting their daily business activities in a safe environment at the various market centres.

Dr Kwadwo Asamoah Nyarko Jectey, Medical Superintendent of the Obuasi Government Hospital, charged the media to intensify public education and sensitization programmes on the dangers of the spread of the virus.

This, according to him, would encourage the people to adhere to the preventive and restrictive protocols to protect themselves against the virus.

“Communication and sensitization on the disease is paramount and that is why the media is needed at this time of the day” he stressed.

Dr Jectey, however, commended the media for the role played so far and said the fight against further spread of the virus was a national one and commended AngloGold Obuasi Mine for the initiative.
