Suaman DCE commends GPRTU for complying with social distancing protocols

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Suaman in the Western North Region, Mr Christian Baah, has applauded the Suaman branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for adhering to the President’s directives to ensure social distancing in their vehicles.

Mr Baah noted that in spite of the reduction in the number of passengers, the leadership of the Union had not increased transport fares, which according to him was commendable.

The DCE was speaking to the GNA on measures the Suaman District Assembly had put in place to curb the spread of COVID -19 in the area.

He disclosed that the Assembly had supplied Veronica buckets at lorry stations, public and private institutions, communities and markets places, to ensure residents regularly washed their hands.

Mr Baah said check points managed by health professionals have been mounted at all entry points to the District with infrared gun thermometers to check the temperature of people who either entered or left the District.

He indicated that since the District shared boundaries with Cote d’Ivoire, the District Public Health and Emergency Committee, together with the sector commander of the Ghana Immigration Service and the District Police Commander have being monitoring all the unapproved routes to ensure no one entered Ghana from La Cote d’Ivoire border or left Ghana to Cote d’Ivoire.

The DCE also commended residents of the District especially market women, for adhering to social distancing and the ban on social gatherings.

Mr Baah encouraged Ghanaians to continue to adhere to the accepted protocols, which included wearing of nose masks, regular washing of hands with soap under running water, frequent use of alcohol based hand sanitizer, observing physical and social distancing and avoiding over crowded places so as to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
