The petition for John Dramani Mahama’s arrest and prosecution over his “do-or-die” remark has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), according to the National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye.
Mr. Mahama has to be detained for instigating political violence, according to Nana Boakye.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will take on the NPP boot for boot, according to Mr. Mahama, if they try to frighten them with hoodlums before the 2020 general elections.
He added that the NDC’s fate will be decided in the general election in 2024.
In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, the NPP National Organiser said, “former President, John Mahama, said for the 2020 general elections, it’s boot for boot, and 2024 general elections it’s going to be a do-or-die affair” insisting that those utterances could incite violence in the country.
He disclosed, “We [NPP] are forwarding a petition to the police CID. We are calling for the immediate arrest, investigation and prosecution of former President John Dramani Mahama for all these comments that he has made. We are of the view that, it undermines national security and the peace that we are enjoying, it undermines our democratic stability”.
He also indicated that the NPP has included the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah in their petition for saying that the NDC will do everything within its power to win the 2024 elections even if they have to sacrifice their lives.
The National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has also been named because of statements he has made that, in our opinion, threaten the peace and stability that our country enjoys as a democratic one. He stated during his acceptance address at the NDC congress that they are willing to give anything, even their lives, to win. For these remarks they made, we are seeking for the arrest of these two gentlemen, former President Mahama and Asiedu Nketiah,” he stated.
He emphasised that the NPP supports Mr. Acheampong’s remarks wholeheartedly and added that they are based on the economic situation, which the government is attempting to alleviate in order to turn around the nation’s fortunes.
If the NDC wins the national elections in 2024, he claims that the NPP will not cede power to them.
“We back Bryan’s statements because we won’t cede power to the NDC because we will win; however, if we lose, we will cede power to you. He never said whether the NDC loses or wins we are not going to hand up power to them. He never said NPP whether we win or lose we are not going to hand over. We find nothing at all wrong with his comment, and we totally back him, said the NPP’s national organiser.
