According to Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, the House would write to the Supreme Court to request an explanation of its decision ordering the House to remove James Gyakye Quayson, the deposed Member of Parliament for Assin North, from its records.
Alban Bagbin, Speaker of the House, expressed doubts on how the Supreme Court’s May 17 decision ordering Parliament to remove Quayson’s name from its records might be interpreted.
Mr. Ayariga emphasised the various consequences of the decision, which he claimed is likely to disrupt the activities of Parliament, in a Citi FM interview on Eyewitness News.
“Saying that something ought to be erased has a lot of consequences. The Speaker is so inquiring as to its true meaning. Does this imply that Gyakye Quayson never made any contributions to anything in the House? That is why the Speaker requested clarification on the ruling’s intent,” he stated.
Mr. Ayariga went on to say that the Supreme Court’s explanation will allay Ghanaians’ desire to comprehend the court’s decision and quell their curiosity.
“Yes, the Speaker has ordered that a letter be sent to the Supreme Court asking them to clarify what they meant when they said that Gyakye Quayson’s name should be removed from the rolls,”
