Arsenal are reportedly making significant strides in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s rising defensive star Victor Valdepenas, as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad with the next generation of elite talent.
The 19-year-old Spaniard, who has been dubbed a “beast” by local media in Madrid for his physical presence and exceptional pace, has caught the attention of top European clubs following a series of impressive displays for Los Blancos’ academy and his first-team debut in December.
Romano Confirms Interest
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Gunners have been monitoring Valdepenas since October. The versatile defender, primarily a center-half but also capable of operating at left-back, is currently high on Arsenal’s shortlist for the upcoming summer transfer window.
While interest is high, a move is expected to be complex. Valdepenas is under contract at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2029, and Real Madrid reportedly views him as a key part of their future defensive core. Arsenal will likely face stiff competition from Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen for his signature.
Arteta’s Vision for the Future
The pursuit of Valdepenas fits into Mikel Arteta’s broader strategy of recruiting high-potential young players who can adapt to the rigorous demands of the Premier League. Standing at 6ft 2in, Valdepenas’ physical attributes are seen as a perfect match for the English game.
However, Valdepenas is not the only Real Madrid player on Arsenal’s radar. Reports suggest the Gunners are also keeping a close eye on the situations of Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, and Arda Güler as they look to add further depth and world-class quality to their ranks.
Transfer Market Shifts
While Arsenal missed out on center-back Marc Guéhi, who recently joined Manchester City, the club remains proactive in the market. The scouting department, led by Sporting Director Andrea Berta, is reportedly “working hard” to ensure the Gunners remain at the front of the queue for Europe’s most coveted prospects.
As the Gunners continue their quest for silverware on domestic and European fronts, the planning for next season is already well underway.
