AcEPA to NPP delegates: elect worthy candidates to succeed departing MPs.

Date:

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates who will be electing parliamentary candidates within seats with incumbent members of parliament are urged by the Africa Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) to select qualified candidates.

Parliament need seasoned lawmakers, according to Dr. Rasheed Draman, executive secretary of ACEPA.

On January 27, the NPP will hold primaries in areas where there are currently serving Members of Parliament.

In a Citi News interview, Dr. Draman urged that delegates should choose wisely on the day.

“In order to avoid the impact of the void that is going to be created by the wealth of experience that we will be missing in the 9th Parliament, they [the delegates] should look for candidates who have the experience and are well-positioned to perform the functions of a legislator, not necessarily those who have money, not necessarily those who are popular, but those who will truly represent the interests of the party and the interests of the constituents.”
