In a bid to explore Africa’s heritage, the African Art Mart, in collaboration with Beyond the Return, is hosting an exhibition, in Accra, to celebrate some African legends.

The event dubbed: “Beyond the Icons: A Celebration of African Legends” art and photo exhibition, opened at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, on Saturday, December 21. It is scheduled to end Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

“This groundbreaking exhibition will honour the lives, legacies, and achievements of Africa’s most influential figures, offering visitors a visual journey through the continent’s rich history and culture,” a release copied to Ghana News Agency said.

Organisers say the 10-day event is staging stunning art works by renowned artists, including Sharon Dede Padiki, Philip Kumah, and Audrey Bruce.

The works feature Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela, Haile Selassie, Martin Luther King Jr., and Maya Angelou, among others.

Apart from the art display, there would be cultural performances and interactive sessions where visitors meet the artists behind the masterpieces.

Mrs. Patricia Kodjo Kumah, Chief Executive Officer, African Art Mart, said the exhibition “transcends individual achievements.”

“It is a tribute to the shared resilience, innovation, and impact of African legends who have shaped the world.

“Beyond celebrating their lives, it is about encouraging today’s generation to embrace their legacy and redefine Africa’s future,” she stated.

“With daily opening hours from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, the event promises to attract art enthusiasts, cultural historians, and the public looking to explore Africa’s extraordinary narrative in an inspiring setting.”

“The “Beyond the Icons” exhibition will provide a platform for reflection, celebration, and inspiration.
“Visitors will leave with a deeper understanding of Africa’s rich heritage and the remarkable individuals who have paved the way,” the organisers added.
