GACL and AWA inspect potential site at Ho Airport for Aviation Training Academy

Date:

Ho (V/R), Feb. 10, GNA – Officials of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and Africa World Airlines (AWA), have conducted an inspection of potential sites at the Ho Airport for the establishment of an Aviation Training Academy.

The initiative is part of a broader vision to transform the airport into a premier aviation training hub, information from the Asogli State has indicated.

Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and Chairman of AWA, is at the forefront of this vision, emphasising the Airport’s serene environment as an ideal setting for both training and maintenance operations.

His leadership underscores the potential for the Ho Airport to become a centre of excellence in aviation training.

The inspection, carried out recently was led by Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of GACL, who, along with her team, evaluated several sites for the construction of a hangar and additional facilities.

The team also engaged in discussions with key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, to explore the feasibility of the project.

This collaborative effort aims to establish a state-of-the-art pilot training academy, alongside a comprehensive Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility.

The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in Ho and the surrounding areas, while also boosting tourism and advancing Ghana’s aviation sector.

Pending the necessary approvals, construction of the facility is anticipated to commence within the year.

In addition to enhancing aviation training and maintenance capabilities, the initiative is also set to benefit educational institutions such as Ho Technical University, further contributing to the development of a skilled workforce in the region.
