Get involved in school selection process – GES to parents

Date:

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has advised parents to heartily commit themselves to the Senior High School (SHS ) selection process of their wards to repress the inconveniences associated with the wrong selection of schools.

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday, Katakyi Kwame Opoku Agyemang, the Central Regional Coordinator of the Free SHS, stated that GES had noticed the negligence of some parents in the academic affairs of their wards, concerning SHS selection which often resulted in wrong choices.

He said it was a very critical moment in the lives of students and they needed to be prioritized by all stakeholders for the right choices of schools and programmes.

“When it gets to this time, you’ll find parents especially market women giving excuses and allowing head teachers and teachers to impose schools on their wards, which creates a lot of problems and breeds complaints, so we’re involving all and sundry in this programme”, he said.

The SHS selection process, which has been slated for Monday, November 29, to Tuesday, December 14, will offer BECE graduates the opportunity to select secondary schools of their choice.
As part of the sensitization and training programme, the GES has deployed a team to tour the country to educate stakeholders on the school selection programme.

Katakyi Agyemang told GNA that a group of counselors have been selected and trained to guide the graduates in selecting their schools and courses.

He told GNA that the sensitization was going to be done annually.

He also revealed that students interested in Technical and Vocational schools in the country, will from this year, be sponsored to enjoy the Free SHS programme.
