Halifax Ladies recorded their second successive win in the ongoing Normalisation Committee Special Women’s competition after inflicting a 2-1 away win over Immigration Ladies at the St. Thomas Aquinas Park yesterday.
Two headed goals from striker Ernestina Tetteh in the eighth and 58th minutes of the games was all the Nungua side needed to cancel out a fifth minute free kick by Evelyn Amaning.
Determined to pick their first point of the campaign, Immigration Ladies attacked their opponents’ goal first with a swift counter attack started by Elizabeth Tobor but goalkeeper Grace Baanwa scored full marks to save Gifty Appiah’s strike.
A free kick behind the box was expertly curled home by Amaning after striker Faustina Kyeremeh was brought down.
The visitors accepted the challenge and continued with their fast game, using the wings much to their advantage.
Slippery winger Constance Serwaa Agyemang was a constant threat to the backline of the host and kept their goal area boiling constantly.
It came as little surprise when she delivered a well taken corner kick in the eighth minute which was headed by Ernestina Tetteh for the equaliser.
As if possessed, the Halifax lads piled pressure on their opponents in search of more goals, however, poor judgement on the part of Tetteh, Bridget Adu and Regina Donkoh robbed them of the goals in the first half.
There was drama in the second half when the Immigration Ladies threatened to abandon the game due to inconsistent refereeing.
But when calm was restored, Serwaa Agyemang in the 58th minute fed Tetteh who headed past goalkeeper Patricia Mantey in post for Immigration Ladies for the match winner.
The home side had a penalty appeal waved off in the closing stages of the game after goalkeeper Baanwa had brought down striker Appiah in a one-on-one situation in the box.
The loss leaves Immigration Ladies bottom of Group D without a win from three games whiles Halifax Ladies move to second place on six points with Police leading with nine points after their 3-1 win over Samaria Ladies yesterday at the ATTC Park.
