Kadjebi (O/R), Feb 10, GNA-Ms. Janet Yaa Obido, an Assistant Civic Education Officer (ACEO) with the Kadjebi District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has urged students to actively participate in the development of the country.
She said playing active roles in the development process would contribute to personal growth and the betterment of society.
Ms. Obido stated this during the swearing-in of the reconstituted Kadjebi R.C Junior High School (JHS) Civic Education Club (CEC) Executives at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
She said that participation in national affairs would empower them to contribute ideas, influence decisions, and take ownership of their future.
The ACEO stated that their involvement in national development would help them acquire essential skills such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking, and that these skills were valuable not only in their careers but also in their daily lives.
Ms. Obido noted that their active involvement would also foster a sense of civic duty as in Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
She added that their participation would provide them with insights into the various challenges and opportunities facing their country, allowing them to make informed decisions.
Mr. Emmanuel Denyo, Patron of the Kadjebi R.C JHS CEC, on behalf of the Club, commended the NCCE team for the reconstitution of the Club in the school.
The idea for the formation of Civic Education Club (CEC) was mooted in a final communiqué issued in March 1996 at the National Consultative Conference on Civic Education organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
The formal launching of CECs throughout the country took place at Accra Academy in March 1996.
Five schools, namely Accra Academy, Achimota School, Accra High, Ebenezer Secondary and PRESEC, Legon were present for the inauguration.
CEC is a voluntary study group of the Constitution which provides an avenue to shape the views of the youth on the Constitution and helped develop in CEC members, an awareness of the principles and objectives of the 1992 Constitution as the fundamental law of the land.
