NDC supporters in Bono join nationwide ‘enough is enough’ demonstration in Sunyani

Date:

Hundreds of members and sympathisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday joined the party’s nationwide “enough is enough” demonstration, with a protest march on the principal street of Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital.

It was however hectic for the police to manage vehicular traffic, as the demonstrators, who wore red armbands, headgears, branded NDC ‘T’ shirts and party paraphernalia, filled the streets of the capital.

Led by the Bono Regional Executives of the party, the demonstrators later presented a petition to the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr Dennis Yeboah Twumasi, the Bono Regional Secretary of the NDC who presented the petition, told the media of the alleged 2024 voters register, describing it as “full of illegalities” and asked the EC to urgently correct the anomalies.

He expressed concern about some alleged illegal voter transfers that happened in the Jaman North, Tain and Banda constituencies of the region.

“Our preliminary investigations into these irregularities or fraud involving voter transfers led to the arrest of one Adama Yusifu, who collected the Voters ID cards of these vulnerable people under the pretext of renewing their National Health Insurance scheme for free,” he said.

Mr Twumasi further alleged that more than 100 names of eligible voters in the region had also been missing from the voter’s register, which he said, had the tendency to mar the Election 2024.

“We have empirical evidence of what we are saying, and we shall not relent until the right thing is done for peaceful elections. There can never be peace without justice and fairness, and we shall insist for the right thing to be done,” he stated.

In another interview, Mr John Ayaba, the NDC’s Bono Regional Director of Elections told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that forensic an audit of the voters’ register was required for the country to go through peaceful polls on December 7.

“All that we are looking for is a credible register because we know that we are winning the elections and we don’t want anything to mar the beauty of it,” he stated.
