Parliament confirms detention of Asante Akim North MP at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport

Parliament has confirmed Mr. Kwame Ohene Frimpong, an Independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim North, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

In a statement signed by Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Clerk to Parliament, and issued to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, it said, Parliament had been informed of the detention and that the Speaker and the leadership of the House were in contact with Ghana’s Mission in the Hague to obtain full details.

“The Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in the Hague for detailed information on the matter,” the statement read.    

It said the public would be informed “appropriately” once more information became available.

Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding Mr. Frimpong’s detention and any charges involved have not yet been disclosed.

Ghana’s Mission in The Hague is expected to provide consular assistance and updates as the situation develops.
