SHS reopening: Ashanti Region schools appeal for furniture [Video]

Date:

Some school heads in the Ashanti Region have urged the government to address the issue of insufficient furniture as soon as possible following the reopening of schools for first-year Senior High School students across the country.

Citi News checks in some schools on Monday, April 4, 2022, showed that as a result of the issue of inadequate furniture, continuing students have to use plastic chairs to augment the existing table and chairs.

Some school authorities in the Ashanti Region who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity on the matter said the problem is adversely affecting academic work, which they want the relevant authorities to address as early as possible.

They have however expressed their readiness to receive all first-year students who are reporting to school, as the double-track system will not be used this academic year.

Benjamin Kyei Ampadu, the assistant headmaster in charge of academics at TI Ahmadiyya Senior High School, on the other hand, said they are set to accommodate the students and academic work has begun.

“Currently, the students are coming gradually, hopefully, they would all fully report. So far, GES has placed 1,529 students as far as the first placement is concerned and about 1,126 have been enrolled. Talking about food security, we are well-prepared for the students, so, parents should not be worried about what their children will eat. The students have begun studies and by next week, they would be oriented into the school officially.”
