Stop irritating us – Ablakwa fires Freda Prempeh’s comments on the Akosombo Dam spillage

Date:

Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, is enraged by recent comments by Sanitation Minister Freda Prempeh that residents of Mepe refused to relocate despite warnings from the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

Madam Prempeh blamed residents in the Lower Volta area for failing to move to higher ground as advised at a forum organized by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Accra.

The minister stated that residents in the affected areas were provided with extensive education prior to the Akosombo Dam spillage, which was ignored and has now resulted in the disastrous outcome we are witnessing.

Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa reacted angrily to the remark, stating that the people affected should be treated.

“We are distressed, we are depressed, and we are devastated, and they should stop these things because it is getting on our nerves. We have had enough of their blatant lies. She should tell us when, and she should give us dates when they came here. I mean, does she know what she is talking about? Where did they say the people should move to and they refused? The people were here more than 200 years before the dam was constructed.”

He made the remarks in an interview on Class FM.
