Bishop Dag Heward-Mills started what was then known as the Iron Sharpeneth Iron conference in 2004. The Lord laid on his heart to provide a forum where pastors and church leaders can come together and receive the word of God to sharpen, encourage and strengthen their lives and ministries.
Most pastors who are truly called of God struggle alone on their journey through life and ministry with many troubles and challenges. They don’t know that what they are experiencing is often common to all ministers and that there is help available.
The hearts desire of Bishop Dag is to bring such ministers together, and send them away fired up and strengthened in the ministry – Hence the name ‘Iron Sharpeneth Iron’ Conference.
Proverbs 27: 17 ‘Iron Sharpeneth Iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend’
What started off with a few hundred people in Accra has over the last 15 years grown to an international conference where thousands of ministers gather for this four-day annual conference. Since 2014, the conference has been launched beyond the boundaries of Ghana and we now have annual conferences in the United Kingdom, South Africa and France.
The vision of the conference has not changed. But the Lord has laid on the heart of Bishop Dag the need for ministers to Give Themselves wholly to true work and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ in a day and age where the church has diluted the true Gospel.
1 Timothy 4:15 ‘Meditate on these things; Give thyself wholly to them …’
The conference was therefore renamed the ‘GIVE THYSELF WHOLLY’ conference’
