According to Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a political scientist, it would probably take Ghana some time to deal with the issue of the monetization of politics.
According to him, the day is drawing near when voters will no longer be swayed by campaign contributions but rather by their convictions.
In an interview with TV3’s Komla Adom for the midday broadcast on Friday, June 24, he was discussing the approaching New Patriotic Party (NPP) national executive elections.
“We hope and pray that this won’t be a part of our political system in the future. We permitted them to cross the line in terms of the financial monetization of politics. For a while, I’m hoping that people won’t be swayed by money and would instead cast their ballots in accordance with their morals and concerns,” he remarked.
It will take some time for us to get rid of monetization, he continued.
The candidates for the next National Officers’ elections scheduled for July 15–17, 2022, at the Accra sports stadium have been given the go-ahead by the NPP’s National Elections Committee, which is presided over by Mr. Peter Mac Manu.
This was after an extensive discussion with the prospective candidates and the interrogation of their documents, a statement by the party on Thursday June 23.
“Two prospective aspirants for the position of National Women Organizer and National Youth Organizer, Abena Osei Bonsu and and Klinsman Karikari Mensah Tumfuor respectively have rescinded their decision to contest,” the statement revealed.
