Mali sanctions are lifted by Ecowas

Date:

The sanctions placed on Mali as a result of the coups d’états in August 2020 and May 20210 have been withdrawn by the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States.

The choice was made on Sunday, July 3 during the 61st Ordinary Session in Accra, Ghana.

The Malian military’s proposal to hold elections and restore civilian control by March 2024 was approved by the Authority.

It also agreed to a two-year timeline for Burkina Faso’s return to democracy.

The junta in Guinea has been told to shorten the three-year scheduled transition to democracy.
