Chelsea are reportedly intensifying efforts to secure Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen on a six-month loan, as manager Enzo Maresca seeks an immediate solution to the club’s instability between the posts.
The German international, 33, has fallen out of favour at Camp Nou following the arrival of Joan García from Espanyol and his own recovery from back surgery. Ter Stegen, who has been Barcelona’s undisputed number one for nearly a decade, is viewed by the Chelsea hierarchy as the ideal experienced presence to support a young defense.
The pursuit of the veteran comes amid reports of dissatisfaction with current goalkeepers, including Robert Sanchez (signed from Brighton). While long-term target Mike Maignan (AC Milan) remains an option, a loan for Ter Stegen would offer a pragmatic, short-term fix without a major commitment, restoring defensive confidence ahead of the second half of the season.
