Gospel Ministers urged to lead a Christ-like life

0

Ministers of the gospel have been urged to portray the life of Christ in their daily lifestyles to help encourage other people to accept and belief in the teachings of the gospel.

Archbishop Emeritus Daniel Yinka Sarfo, former Anglican Bishop of Kumasi and metropolitan Archbishop of Ghana, who made the call, said it was also important for gospel Ministers to let their lives influence and encourage the youth to enter the Christian ministries to receive the blessings of God.

He was speaking at a ceremony to consecrate Reverend Joseph Evans Amoako Otchere, Founder and General Overseer of Triumphant Church International Commission, as Bishop, by the Association of Bishops and Apostles of Ghana at a ceremony at Obuasi

The consecration ceremony was conducted by His Lordship, Bishop Dr. Maxwell Paul Appiah the President of the Association.

Archbishop Yinka Sarfo said he was particularly excited that despite the challenges in the way to the Kingdom, men and women continued to brave the storm to do God’s work and win souls for Christ.

He said ascension to the bishopric was a high call to service with additional responsibilities and urged the new bishop to guide and guard his flock and ensure that they all entered the kingdom of God.

Bishop Joseph Evans Amoako Otchere, speaking to journalist after the service, said his upliftment in the work of God was a testament of long years of dedication, perseverance, and commitment to the service of God.

He appealed to up-and-coming men of God to concentrate on winning souls for Christ and not follow money.

“I would not have been a man of God or a full gospel minister if it were all about money.

I left my well-paying job at Ashanti Goldfields Corporation to do God’s work”, he stated.

He implored the country’s leaders to embrace the word of God and put efforts in developing the country to improve the lives of the citizens.

Born 75 years ago, Bishop Joseph Evans Amoako Otchere hails from Kwapia in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.

He holds a Diploma in Theology from All Nations for Christ Bible Institute.

He has over 50 years of experience in the gospel Ministry of which the last 45 years had been full time.

Bishop Amoakoh Otchere, resigned from Ashanti Goldfields Corporation, now AngloGold Ashanti in 1979 to respond to the call of God.

He became a new convert whiles he was a wind driver at the Obuasi Mine.

He had to leave his lucrative job at AGC and forfeit promotion into senior staff position to become a man of God.

He founded the Triumphant Church International Commission, a vibrant charismatic ministry which was incorporated in 1996 and has several branches in two regions in Ghana.

CPP Jomoro delegates declare support for Dr Kwesie

0

Some Convention People’s Party (CPP) delegates in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region have declared their support for Dr Patrick Ekye Kwesie, a Parliamentary Aspirant for the party in the area.

They said the 2020 Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency possessed the qualities and experience to lead the party to snatch the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Badu Erzoah, Chairperson for CPP Delegates in Joromo, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that Dr Kwesie was a unifier and credible enough to work hard and win the seat for the party.

According to him, the Aspiring Member of Parliament had put in much effort to make the CPP popular and attractive in the Constituency saying, “We always recall the young men believe and resources he pumped in 2020 to keep the CPP up and rolling”.

He said they were, therefore, going to maintain him as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency going into the 2024 elections, “Because if nothing at all, this young man left his work, family and health to save CPP from not being left to the tatters in Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s paternal home which is Jomoro”.

Mr Erzoah touted some of the achievements of Dr Kwesie and said he had championed the welfare of youth in the area through various initiatives, and supported intervention aimed at poverty alleviation in the area.

He noted that the CPP risked losing the December 7 parliamentary polls in the Constituency if it did not maintain Dr Kwesie as its parliamentary candidate.

“Without Ekye Kwesie, we are afraid that the CPP will not meet the requirements for a candidate to be considered to represent the party in the upcoming general elections,” Mr Erzoah said.

He, therefore, called on the ordinary people of the party to unite and join forces to work towards achieving their aim of winning the Jomoro seat.

Meanwhile, the CPP is yet to hold their Presidential and Parliamentary primaries to elect their candidates within a few months to the 2024 elections.

Blaugrana officials are “losing faith” in the manager following their crushing Clasico loss to rival Real Madrid in the Supercopa final.

0

Following his team’s devastating 4-1 loss to rival Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana final, Barcelona manager Xavi has been the subject of speculation about his future.

Joan Fontes of Bar Cantales has reported that the Barcelona leadership, including President Joan Laporta and Sporting Director Deco, have begun to lose faith in the former midfield superstar. The report also claims that Deco has begun to question the signing of Manchester City’s treble-winning captain, Ilkay Gundogan. The loss has reportedly started to raise alarm bells in Catalonia regarding Xavi’s continuance at the club.

Despite the reports from Fontes, Mundo Deportivo and SPORT, the two leading Catalan news outlets, have claimed that the leadership at the club are fully sure of Xavi and are behind him. They believe he is still the right man for the job despite their Clasico thrashing.

After the match, Deco spoke to the media about the loss. He said (via Toni Juanmarti): “It’s a tough defeat. Furthermore, we have not been able to fight. We have to continue and think about the Cup.”

Pressed on Xavi’s future, the sporting director quelled rumours of his sacking, as he explained: “This question doesn’t make any sense. The coach continues to have everyone’s trust. It is a defeat that does not change anything in that aspect.”

WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA?

There is not a lot of time for Xavi to recuperate his squad before their clash against Unionista de Salamanca, a third-tier side, in the Copa del Rey on Thursday, January 18. Xavi will likely field a full-strength squad as the cup could be the Catalan side’s only shot at a trophy this season.

Real Madrid prodigy Jude Bellingham has been praised for ignoring’magic’ Manchester United transfer advice, while Red Devils icon Gary Neville admits he was wrong.

Gary Neville complimented Real Madrid sensation Jude Bellingham for ignoring his “magic” Manchester United transfer advise.

Despite meeting with Premier League heavyweights at Old Trafford, Bellingham chose to leave his comfort zone and join Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. He has since earned a €103 million (£89m/$113m) move to Madrid, with Neville admitting that the 20-year-old was correct to ignore his apparent words of wisdom.

Red Devils legend Neville has told Sky Sports: “I’ve spoken to a couple of players before they’ve come here and said ‘you’ll never regret it, it’s a magic football club’. But I have to say looking back, it looks like pretty poor advice with what’s happened to them since they’ve come and it’s really sad. They would have thrived at other clubs. Other players who have chosen other clubs have gone on to be really successful.

“You think of Jude Bellingham, and I think of that quite a lot, when he walks into the boardroom here at Man United, United have agreed a fee with Birmingham, and so have Dortmund. He has a choice between Dortmund and United. And somehow that kid, well done to him, chose Borussia Dortmund, and he’s now one of the greatest players in the world, one of the greatest English talents. What would have happened to him if he’d come here? I don’t know, maybe he would have been a success because he’s that good. I’m not so sure in the current environment and culture and what’s been happening.”

Bellingham contributed 49 goal contributions through 132 appearances for Dortmund, with his stock soaring in Germany to the point that he became of obvious interest to La Liga giants Real – who are forever in the market for players that fit their ‘Galacticos’ recruitment model.

WHAT NEXT FOR BELLINGHAM?

Bellingham has continued to star in Spain, registering 17 goals and six assists in 24 outings, and is the current holder of prestigious Kopa Trophy and Golden Boy awards. United are being left to mull over what could have been, with the Red Devils finding little value in the big-money deals that they have completed in recent transfer windows.

Ghana is broke, I’m measured in my promises – Mahama

0

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has stated that he is being measured in his promises ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Mahama stated that the current state of the economy prevents him from making grand promises while speaking to NDC supporters in Hohoe in the Volta Region.

“…I am being very measured in the promises that I make because we all know the crisis in which this country has been plunged [into]. We will show you the books and finances of this country, and you will realise the harm that the New Patriotic Party administration has done this country, the economy is broke.”

Mr. Mahama also said the next NDC government would pay monthly allowances of GH¢1,000 to all Assembly members.

He said payment of the allowances would cost the nation an amount of GH¢80 million a year.

Mr Mahama speaking in Hohoe to climax his two-day “Building the Ghana we want together” tour to the Volta Region, said: “The office of the President’s budget alone is more than GH¢2 billion. We are going to reduce the President’s office expenditure to pay the Assembly members.”

The autopsy report for Atta-Mills can be obtained by his legitimate family at Cadman Mills’ 37 Military Hospital.

In response to a renewed request for the late president’s autopsy report from some of the late president’s relatives, Dr. Cadman Mills, the brother of the late Ghanaian president John Evans Atta-Mills, stated, “The (legitimate) family can obtain a copy from 37 [Military Hospital].”

Nana Enyimfua III, speaking on behalf of the family, made the request during a visit to the president in Accra on Saturday. Nana Enyimfua III expressed concerns about the cause of the late president’s death and stressed the significance of obtaining the report for historical records and closure.

But Dr. Cadman Mills, in response on X, disclosed that an autopsy was performed at the 37 Military Hospital and will be made available to the legitimate family.

“VERY STALE NEWS!!! And exasperating! President Mills died. An Autopsy was performed at 37 Military Hospital. A “Family Representative” was present at autopsy, as required by law. The (legitimate) family can obtain a copy from “37” to do with as it pleases. Next Subject.”

Nana Enyimfua III, had said: “Our biggest problem as a family is that ever since I was enstooled as queenmother, I have not seen any autopsy report in the family. That is the biggest problem I have with the family because if someone asks me what killed him I won’t know if the doctor said he broke his arm or his neck or drunk something.”

“So we plead with you and the government that the family needs the autopsy report so that in future when I am no more queen mother posterity will learn from it because no child from the family knows what killed the late former president not to talk about me the queen mother in the family. So I plead with you on behalf of the family, before you leave office let us get the autopsy report.”

President Nana Akufo-Addo subsequently described the request as a “legitimate one”.

“I’ll have to find out how to proceed on that, but it’s a legitimate demand,” the president said after the family called on him at Jubilee House.

“If the family wants to have [the autopsy report] of someone who died in those circumstances, it’s a legitimate demand”, Mr Akufo-Addo said after Mr Koku Anyidoho, the spokesperson of the late president, had informed him in the presence of Mills’ family that only the late President’s brother, Samuel Atta Mills, claims to have the autopsy report.

NPP parliamentary primaries: Appeals Committee to submit report today

0

The National Parliaments Appeals Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to submit its report on the cases it received by aggrieved individuals who were dissatisfied with the Party’s disqualification, today.

At least eleven people were disqualified after the vetting committee completed the vetting of aspirants on January 4, 2024.

It is not clear the number of appeals the Committee received, but some disgruntled aspirants had expressed disagreement with the vetting committee’s disqualification.

Mr Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections, NPP, told the Ghana News Agency that the Party was expectant that the Appeals Committee would submit its report by the close of Monday, January 15, 2023.

The NPP closed nominations in constituencies where it has sitting members of parliament on December 25, 2023, and the final leg of the internal election to elect its parliamentary candidates is scheduled for January 27, 2024.

The Party currently has 137 seats in Parliament.

About 400 aspirants picked nomination forms to contest the primaries, out of which about 370 went through the vetting process.

Some 326 aspirants were initially cleared to contest the January 27 primaries.

Mr Nimako said the elections committee and the national and regional wings of the NPP were working together to ensure that the unity of the Party was kept intact before, during and after the elections.

He appealed to aspirants and party members to respect the rules outlined by the Party to ensure a smooth electoral process.

“We should all respect the rules of the game and work towards the Party’s victory in 2024,” Mr Nimako added.
