Brother Dr. Dan Asiamah, a Missionary and Minister of the Takoradi Central Church of Christ says legalizing LGBTQ+ and its associated vices in the country will be an indictment on Ghanaians.

Democracy is here: God’s word is also here…let us, as a people think well of some unlawful sexual relations in Leviticus 18:22 which talks against same sex relationship and intercourse.”

Dr. Asiamah said like Sodom and Gomorrah any individual or group as well as a nation that endorsed the practice becomes a detestable nation and have defiled their land.

He continued in Leviticus 18:28 that “and if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you”, adding, “Are we prepared as a country to stand the damnation of God and all its associated natural disasters and destruction”.

The Minister also added that Romans 1:22-28 described gayism and lesbianism as unnatural, shameful, uncleanness and dishonoring of one’s body, “So if you respect yourself make-up as a human being, then you will not even think of such practices”.

The Missionary noted the gravity of the offenses that would be staring at Ghana should the country make a commitment to promote such evils in the name of Democracy and rights against the will of God and the need for all and sundry to support the Bill in parliament to vehemently oppose the practice in the country.

The two masked robbers who were on a motorbike managed to escape after the operation.
Information gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) indicated that one of the robbers was earlier captured on a Closed-circuit Television wearing orange shirt with a pair of blue jeans trousers loitering around the premises.

The source said immediately the staff of Mon-Tran services collected the GH¢107, 271. 20 from the operations manager of the shop and attempted to enter the vehicle, one of the robbers who was spotted walking around quickly came over and snatched the bag containing the money at gunpoint.

He then fired gunshots to deflate the tyre of the Mon-Tran services vehicle and those parked around to deter the public and jumped on their motorbike and sped off.

The incident has been reported to the Tarkwa District Police command and investigations have commenced, but no arrest has been made.

NCCE engages Sanga community on violent extremism, terrorism

0

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has asked citizens to support the security agencies by volunteering information on any act that may threaten or compromise the peace and security of the country.

This was the outcome of an engagement with chiefs and people of Sanga, a farming community in the South Dayi District of the Volta region on violent extremism and terrorism.

Mr Bosson Amedenu, the South Dayi District Director of the Commission said, the engagement formed part of the Commission’s campaign to sensitise the populace on violent extremism, national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

The Director said when the citizens were equipped with the relevant information on violent extremism and radicalism and their devastating effects, they would guard against being involved in them.

Mr Amedenu said the peace and security of the country must be paramount to every citizen and that they must conduct themselves in a manner that would not jeopardize the current prevailing peace.

Mr Oral-Robert Amenyo, Deputy Volta Regional Director of the Commission, took the participants through early warning signals, community surveillance and other mechanisms to be deployed to prevent terrorism.

He underscored the importance of community surveillance and neighbourhood watch and asked the people to intensify them to forestall any threat.

Mr Amenyo asked the community to use Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) or any other appropriate channels to address their grievances and desist from resorting to violent means.

Mr Kenneth Kponor, Volta Regional Director of the Commission, said every citizen had a role to play in curbing violent extremism and its related activities.

He said Ghana was bordered by countries in which terrorists’ activities were ongoing, which threatened the security of the country, thus there was a need for all to be security cautious and to remain vigilant.

The community members were worried about proliferation of small arms in the country, and urged the government to put measures in place to control them.

They asked the government to retool the security agencies, especially the police, to enable them to execute their duties effectively and efficiently, so that the country would remain safe and peaceful.

They appealed to the government to institute mechanisms to deal with recent killings and armed robbery in the country, saying the situation was troubling.

Togbe Avali Kwadjo IV, chief of the community, called on the government to take necessary actions to address the unemployment situation in the country.

He said unemployment was one of the factors contributing to insecurity in most countries, therefore every effort must be made to create jobs for the people, especially the youth.

The engagement was in collaboration with the Ministry of National Security, and was held under the theme: Empowering Ghanaians to stand for national cohesion and inclusive participation.

The Commission also held similar engagements with the chief and people of Tsatee in the same district to educate them on the need to avoid violent extremism and protect the peace of the country for accelerated development.

He said construction works of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Fodome campus were ongoing with plans to undertake a major housing project in the Area.

Mr Amewu addressing chiefs and people of Fodome during a ceremony to commission a newly built six-unit classroom block of the Fodome Helu R/C Junior High School (JHS), said one of the biggest and critical educational projects carried out nationwide was coming to Fodome.

“What I want to do between Hohoe and Fodome is to make Fodome an educational enclave in the Volta region just as it is in Cape Coast. That is how a town is built.
“So, we also took it upon ourselves to make the Fodome area one of the best educational enclaves in the whole Volta region.”

The MP called on the chiefs and people of the Area to support him for him to also replicate.
He called on them to also support the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) as they supported him, adding that “once you see him, you see me. His name is Awumey and my name is Amewu.”

The Minister also inspected ongoing construction works on the Fodome to Wli Todzi road being constructed by the Messrs First Sky Limited.

He secured 100 percent endorsement with all the 45 ballots cast.

The Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, thanked the assembly members for accepting the President’s nominee and called for unity.

He urged the assembly members to bury their difference and help push for more projects to help develop every area in the municipality.

An Advocate pushes for direct democratic governance in decentralization policy

0

An Advocate For Direct Democratic Governance with Initiatives and Referenda, Mr.Yaw Adu-Gyamfi Jnr. has called for a bottom to top decentralized direct democracy.

According to him, the current trend of Ghana’s Governance system was a top to bottom centralized elected dictatorship which did not augur well in the running of the Assemblies.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi, Mr Adu-Gyamfi who is also the biological grandson of Mr.R.S.Blay, one of the Presidents of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) said, “we should elect our Assemblies as by-law makers to appoint our Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to execute our constituency initiatives because we should be having local referenda about how our localities /residencies should be run”.

He said for decades now, governance in Africa was a top to bottom approach and the NCCE could liaise with the media to start public education/debate about initiatives and referenda and by-laws in English and local dialects.

“There should be more infrastructure and digitization to help operate, reflect and represent local legislatures, executives and judiciaries”.

Mr.Adu-Gyamfi also noted that “Ghanaians voted in the last elections because they were fed up with local DCE and MP conflicts not forgetting corruption and would want to move from party politics to real democratic politics”.

NDC’s re-organisation would be thoroughly watched

0

Former President John Dramani Mahama has said the upcoming re-organisation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be strictly supervised.

He said in a bid to re-group for victory in the 2024 polls, the Party sought valid crop of local executives and would therefore ensure that the selection process was credible.

Mr. Mahama was addressing Party faithful in Ho, while on a day’s visit to the Volta Region as part of his nationwide post-election 2020 ‘thank you tour’.

He said the Party’s re-organization process would begin in 2022, and that national executives would personally supervise the processes throughout the country.

“We are going to shut down the national headquarters and we are going to do it section by section. We are not going to do that thing, where we tell all of you to, between this time and this time, organize branch elections; No. We will go with you from branch to branch and make sure that at every branch, you have the nine member executives,” the former president who was the flagbearer of the Party for the 2020 elections said.

Mr. Mahama re-assured that the NDC was working to prevent challenges that caused its defeat in the previous elections, and reminded members to support a united front in protecting votes and securing victory.

“We all must contribute to ensure that the elections are won at the polling station and the collation centre. We are doing our homework. Polling stations, collation centres- we are not going to joke with them and we will make sure the right thing is done”.

He urged the Party to “work hard”, saying its manifesto held the solution to the nation’s challenges and must win back power to pursue it.

The former president said the Volta Region continued to be the refuge of the NDC, and said the coming administration would be sure to make up for lingering woes of neglect and abandonment.

Mr. Mahama met chiefs and religious leaders in the region, seeking support for electoral reforms, which he said were necessary following what he claimed was an unsettled election.

Oti MDCEs charged to win parliamentary seats in 2024

0

Mr John Boadu, the General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has tasked the newly sworn-in Municipal and District Chief Executives in Oti Region to work hard towards annexing parliamentary seats in the 2024 elections.

Mr Boadu gave the responsibility during the annual regional delegates’ conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region.

He was impressed that more than 102, 865 votes, representing 35.82 per cent increase, was realised during the presidential election in 2020.

Mr Boadu established that the NPP government starting from former President Kufuor’s era had implemented more social intervention programmes to alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians than any government.

He said one of the government’s most important interventions since independence was the free SHS under President Akufo- Addo’s regime.

He said resolving the issue of the ambulance through the one- constituency one- ambulance projects which has brought about 307 ambulances was a great achievement.

He said the NPP government had saved the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) from collapsing, saved the school feeding programme, many other social intervention projects and currently had agenda 111 in the health sector, which had taken off.

Mr Evans Yao Dapaah, the Oti Regional NPP Chairman lamented that they could not win a single parliamentary seat but assured party faithful strategic plans to snatch some seats from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.

A National Heart to Heart HIV and AIDS Ambassador, Mrs Lydia Aditse Azumah, has passed on to eternity.

She died in August 2021 after a short illness and would be buried on Saturday October 23, 2021, in her hometown, Ve-Deme in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region after a pre burial service at the GAEC Hospital, opposite the Kwabenya Police Station in Accra.

Mrs Azumah, a strong advocate against stigmatisation of children living with HIV, lived with the virus for the past 21 years before her demise.

She and her husband, Reverend John Azumah, also a person living with HIV, established an orphanage, the Motherly Love Orphanage for children living with HIV.

The couple, have four biological children who are all HIV negative.

While alive, Mrs Azumah and her husband worked with the Ghana AIDS Commission as HIV and AIDS ambassadors and spearheaded the HIV Anti stigma campaign in the country.

Through her work, she endeared herself to many as she dedicated herself to the education on HIV and AIDS to both in and out of school children, and also to women and children in churches, mosques and market places.

Together with her husband, they housed and cared for 58 children who had lost their parents through HIV and AIDS.

They provided shelter, education, medication, feeding and clothing to the children.

The Heart-to-Heart campaign is an initiative by the Ghana AIDS Commission that involved the giving of a platform to persons living with HIV to disclose their HIV status and share their experiences to educate the Ghanaian population against stigma and discrimination and also empower persons living with HIV to accept their status and be on medication and to also protect themselves and others from further HIV infection.

She travelled all over the country to help stop HIV and AIDS stigma and discrimination and to other parts of the world to advocate for Ghana to start producing its own Anti-retroviral drugs to avoid shortages and delay in supply and management of HIV in various health facilities.

Mrs Azumah was a very devoted Christian in the Hope International Ministry, located on the Spintex road, where she assisted her husband as the ‘First Lady’ of the Church and propagated the gospel of Jesus Christ, raising young men and women for the kingdom of God.

Many of her church members have described Mrs Azumah as a very kind and generous woman who always pushed for the right things to be done in the Church.

Fuel price hikes will continue; government has no plans to address it – IES

0

The Institute for Energy Security (IES) is worried government may not have an immediate solution to the consistently rising fuel prices at the pump.

The prices have been on a steady rise since April 2021 leading to complaints about hardships from Ghanaians.

Currently, a litre of petrol and diesel is selling at GH¢6.80 at the various filling stations. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the government of insensitivity as a result.

The government subsequently promised the removal of the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levies (PRSL) component of fuel prices for only two months.

But Executive Director of the IES, Nana Amoasi VII, fears the government’s approach is a knee-jerk one.

“If care is not taken, we will see this price surging on the market consistently. You will ask how the government will negotiate to solve the situation, but unfortunately, where the government sits today, it will be able to reduce these taxes by more than 10 percent and the approach the government has taken, we call it knee-jerk because it is not sustainable.”

“There are other things the government must do to ensure that fuel prices remain stable. You can take away all the taxes, but trust me because we have mechanisms that have broken down, we will still come to the same GH¢6.80 per litre in less than six months because we have become price takers”, he emphasized.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has disclosed that President Akufo-Addo had approved the removal of the PRSL on petrol, diesel, and LPG for two months.

It explained that the approval followed its advice to the Energy Minister for the government’s intervention to mitigate the impact of rising prices of petroleum products on the world market on consumers.

However, the much-anticipated suspension of the levy in the price build-up of fuel at the pumps is yet to take effect even as the second pricing window commences because Parliament is yet to give the NPA the approval needed to scrap the levy.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) feels the Nana Akufo-Addo government does not care about the plight of Ghanaians in the wake of a surge in prices of petroleum products.

Sammy Gyamfi, Communications Officer of the party at a media engagement, attributed the prevailing hardships to “callousness and insensitivity on the part of the NPP government”.

He said the increases were the result of the introduction of a raft of taxes targeted at shoring up the government’s finances and the depreciation in the value of the cedi.

Mr. Gyamfi noted that the fuel price increments mirrored increments in the prices of several items on the market, and wondered what had become of the promise by the NPP to move from taxation to production?

He said the economy was in shambles despite the “availability of an unprecedented inflow of resources” and charged the government to “sit up and stabilize the Ghana cedi through prudent economic management to stabilize fuel prices”.

“Permit me to state from the word go, that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-NPP government has shown itself to be callous and does not appear a give a hoot about the plight of Ghanaians. Otherwise, what can be the justification for the rampant and persistent increases in fuel prices we are witnessing in Ghana today?”

The NDC, therefore, wants President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately reduce fuel prices in the country.

This the party suggested could be done by the government by scrapping some of the taxes slapped on petroleum products.
