CAF grants request for full capacity at Baba Yara for Ghana vs. Nigeria

Date:

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has agreed to allow Ghana to have a capacity crowd at the Baba Yara Stadium for the first leg of their 2022 World Cup playoff tie against Nigeria.

COVID-19 restrictions had limited the number of fans that could be admitted at stadiums for international matches.

However, ahead of the match against Nigeria on Friday, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) requested that the match be played in front of a capacity 40,000 crowd at the Baba Yara Stadium.

That request has now been granted by CAF and FIFA.

This news will excite fans who had been worried about whether they’ll be able to watch the game at the stadium, and also the GFA, who have constantly touted the positive impact the fans in Kumasi particularly have on the Black Stars.

The GFA has urged everyone who intends to watch the match at the stadium to “obey all laid-down safety and security measures strictly” in order to avoid sanctions from CAF and FIFA.

Friday’s match will kick off at 19:30 GMT.
