Mpox cases rise to 3, one confirmed in Greater Accra Region.

One more case of mpox has been confirmed in the Greater Accra Region, bringing the total number of cases in the country to three.

The first case was reported in the Western North Region on September 25, involving a 15-year-old boy. His mother was later confirmed as the second case.

Health officials are urging the public to stay vigilant, follow hygiene protocols, and report any suspected symptoms to healthcare providers as soon as possible.

The Ghana Health Service has also stepped-up public awareness campaigns and is working closely with local health facilities to ensure they are prepared to handle potential cases.

Dr. Dennis Laryea, Deputy Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service in an interview with Citi News noted that all identified contacts are being closely monitored.

“We had the outbreak in Western North, but I think it has been contained. There was one case confirmed in the Greater Accra Region, the region has done their investigations, and so far, we haven’t confirmed any case even among the contacts. But we’re still following them up to determine if anybody develops symptoms. The case was confirmed last week, the person is quite very well. That has been handled.

“But sometimes when you get these cases, you want to be double sure that there are others out there that we haven’t picked. And so, the region is working with the district to make sure that they have been able to follow all the contacts,” he said.

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio believes his teammate Mohammed Kudus has the potential to win the prestigious African Footballer of the Year award in the future.

Kudus, 24, has been a standout performer since making his debut for Ghana’s Black Stars in November 2019, scoring in his first appearance against South Africa.

To date, he has earned 38 caps, netting eight goals, including two each in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

The Ghana international had an impressive first season in the Premier League, making 41 appearances for West Ham United and scoring 10 goals.

Antonio is confident in Kudus’ abilities and spoke highly of his potential.

“With Mo’s [Mohammed Kudus] talent, there’s a 100% chance that he can win [African Footballer of the Year],” Antonio said in an interview with Joy Sports.

Although Kudus did not make this year’s CAF shortlist for the award, Antonio acknowledged the stiff competition from established stars like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mané.

“Obviously, there are some great potentials there. There’s [Pierre] Aubameyang, there’s Mo Salah, there’s [Sadio] Mane, and there’s definitely Kudus, but I believe he has the talent to do it.”

However, Antonio pointed out that individual success often hinges on team performance.

He noted that while Ghana has a rich footballing history, the current team needs to raise its level to help players like Kudus shine on the international stage.

“It’s just that he needs the surroundings of his team to help him to do it, and right now, Ghana isn’t at that quality,” he noted.

“Ghana has a quality past and quality history, but right now, they’re not doing as well as they feel like they should be doing.”

For Kudus to secure Africa’s top individual accolade, Antonio believes both the player and the national team must strive for greater achievements.

“For him [Kudus] to achieve that [win the African Player of the Year], I feel he and Ghana, as a team, have to do more for that to happen,” he added.

Black Stars coach, Otto Addo has emphasized that they must win against Angola to keep their chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament alive.

Ghana, who are four-time African champions have endured a torrid campaign in the qualifiers and are at risk of failing to qualify for the AFCON tournament for the time in 20 years.

Otto Addo and his charges suffered a 1-0 defeat in their opener at the Baba Yara Stadium before a 1-1 draw against Niger.

The Black Stars were hoping to return to winning in a doubleheader against Sudan but they were held to a goalless scoreline at the Accra Sports Stadium before suffering a 2-0 defeat in the return leg.

These results leave Ghana now at the 4th place in Group F with just two points following Niger’s 4-0 win over Sudan on Thursday in Lome.

The Nigeriens’ win has also handed the Black Stars a lifeline to qualify but must win against Angola and Niger and hope Sudan lose against Angola.

Nigerian gospel actor Moses Korede Are ‘Baba Gbenro’ of Abattoir fame, ‘is dead.

The Nigerian gospel film industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor Moses Korede Are, popularly recognised for his role as “Baba Gbenro” in the popular Mount Zion series, Abattoir.

The news of the actor’s death was announced by his colleague, Oluwaseun Adejumobi, on Thursday, who shared the news on his verified Instagram account.

Adejumobi expressed his grief, saying, “Heaven’s Gain Again. A General Has Gone to Rest.”

Tributes have since poured in for the late actor, whose work left a lasting impact on the gospel film industry. Gospel actor Zoe Adeola, reflecting on Are’s legacy, wrote on X, “Rest in peace, Baba Gbenro. Your role in Abattoir will definitely leave a great memory of you in our minds. So painful.

Moses Korede Are, fondly known as Baba Gbenro, born on June 11, 1959. He spent his early years in Kano State, Nigeria, later continuing his education in Plateau State and ultimately completing his studies in southwestern Nigeria.

President receives France’s highest award.

France has bestowed its highest national honour of merit on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The National Order of the Legion of Honor (Ordure National de la Légion d’Honneur) was conferred on the President at a ceremony at the French Presidency, Elysee, in Paris, France, yesterday.

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, personally decorated President Akufo-Addo with the Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour (Grand Officier de la Légion d’Honneur) medal at the ceremony.

The National Order of the Legion of Honour is the highest honour of merit given by France to individuals who have provided exceptional services to France or defended causes and ideals that France supports, such as democracy, human rights, press freedom and humanitarian services.

The award was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, and has been preserved by all French governments since the 19th century.

The Order is divided into five categories, namely the Grand Cross (Grand-Croix), the Grand Officer (Grand Officier), the Commander (Commandeur), Officer (Officier) and Knight (Chevalier), with the Grand Cross being the highest category and the Knight being the lowest.

The French President is the Grand Master of the Order and confers the orders on deserving dignitaries.  

Previous awardees of the honour include the former German Chancellor, Angela Merkel; former President of the Swiss Confederation, Pascal Couchepin; Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former Italian Prime Minister, Massimo d’Alema, and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

Conferring the award on President Akufo-Addo, President Macron lauded the Ghanaian leader’s commitment to democracy and human rights, as well as his role in strengthening the diplomatic ties between Ghana and France.

President Akufo-Addo was on a day’s State visit to France, where he held bilateral talks with Mr Macron. 

He also spoke at an event organised by France Volontaires, the French platform for international volunteering, and a high-level event organised by UNESCO in honour of the first African Director-General of UNESCO, Amadou Mahtar-M’Bow. 

LGBTQ+ Will Destroy Ghana—Bawumia.

The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his opposition to the controversial practice of LGBTQ+.

Without mincing words, he sternly cautioned that the country would face severe consequences if LGBTQ+ were to be legalized.

Dr. Bawumia, who is currently in the Ashanti Region on a campaign tour, stated emphatically that LGBTQ+ would never see the light of day if he is elected president.

According to him, LGBTQ+ is alien to Ghanaian values and culture, and he does not see any reason to consider introducing it in the country.

“LGBTQ+ is not in the Bible; it’s not in the Quran, it’s not part of our culture, traditions, and values. It will therefore not be allowed under my presidency,” Dr. Bawumia promised.

Continuing, Dr. Bawumia declared, “LGBTQ+ will destroy the country if it is introduced as law. I will therefore not condone anything that will harm our nation.”

The NPP presidential candidate made these statements while addressing congregants at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Atimatim, in the Afigya Kwabre South Constituency.

He also announced that plans were underway to establish a National Pilgrimage Authority to regulate religious pilgrimages for both Muslims and Christians in Ghana.

“This authority will streamline and oversee trips to Mecca for Hajj by Muslims and facilitate pilgrimages to Israel for Christian worshippers in the country,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for an organized and transparent system to help manage these sacred journeys for Muslims and Christians alike.

He commended Muslims and Christians for living in peace and harmony in Ghana over the years, encouraging them to maintain this unity for the country’s development.

Under his government, Dr. Bawumia also pledged to provide a free university education for the children of cocoa farmers, stating, “This will greatly benefit us all as a nation.”

EC begins nationwide ballot distribution for December Elections today.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to initiate the transport of ballot papers for December 7,  general elections today, Thursday, November 14.

In a letter addressed to the General Secretaries of all political parties, EC Deputy Chairman for Operations Samuel Tettey conveyed that preparations have entered their final stages, with ballot materials being dispatched to each region under stringent security measures.

“We bring you warm greetings from the Electoral Commission… [and] inform you that the transportation of ballot papers to the various regions will start tomorrow,” Mr. Tettey noted in the letter, dated November 13.

This phase follows the EC’s month-long preparation efforts to finalise voter registration, allocate polling stations, and train election officers among others.

According to the letter, the ballot papers are scheduled to be kept in secured police facilities within each region until election day, when they will be handed over to officials in the presence of party representatives to guarantee fairness and transparency.

The EC has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process, highlighting that robust security protocols are in place to prevent any tampering or unauthorized access to ballot papers.

Ghana’s economy was destroyed by Ken Ofori-Atta – Nduom alleges.

The Founder and President of Group Nduom, Papa Kwesi Nduom, has alleged that the economy was collapsed by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and his team.

He stated that the former finance minister failed to manage the nation’s economy as expected.

“I am making the point that the economy of Ghana was destroyed by the actions of a handful of people who controlled the financial and investment sectors. And the leader, the one who led this and is still behind it, as if he is not there, is Kenneth Ofori-Atta,” he alleged.

Papa Kwesi Nduom challenged the former minister to “come to the public and say it wasn’t me, but somebody else” who destroyed Ghana’s economy.

The businessman made the allegations during his weekly live Facebook interaction with the public on Wednesday, 13th November 2024.

Every week, Papa Kwesi Nduom speaks on the state of the country’s economy via his Facebook page. In a segment he initiated and called “Disappointed but not Discouraged“, he addresses key issues and offers solutions to the government on how to improve the nation’s economic direction.

The seasoned politician’s businesses in the financial sector were heavily affected, leading to the collapse of GN Bank, Gold Coast Securities, and some of his production firms following the Nana Addo-led government’s banking sector clean-up exercise in 2018.

In his most recent conversation, Papa Kwesi Nduom claimed that his bank was deliberately collapsed because he does not belong to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Black Stars players need a change of attitude—Gold Stars coach Frimpong Manso.

Former Ghana international, Frimpong Manso has called on the playing body of the Black Stars to change their attitude and committee to the course of playing for the country.

Manso’s remarks come on the back of the team’s poor performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

After four games, the Black Stars are winless and sit 3rd in Group F with just two points and are at risk of failing to qualify for the AFCON tournament scheduled to be hosted in Morocco next.

However, speaking in an interview, the Bibiani GoldStars coach says the playing body needs a change of attitude.

He further called on the technical handlers of the team to drop players who seem to prioritize their clubs over playing for the national team.

“Black Stars need a change of attitude. As it stands, chances of qualifying for the AFCON are over but they will need to change their attitude ahead of the World Cup qualifiers,” he told Asempa FM as monitored by Ghanasoccernet.com.

“It is bad to see them under pressure to win games minutes to end the games. I know some of them are committed, but those who are lackadaisical must be dropped because these are the same players who play for the World Cup qualifiers.

“There must be some drastic changes because some of the players seem to be prioritizing the clubs over the national team,” he added.

Ghana will be hosted by Angola on Friday, November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro before hosting Niger in their final game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.

The Black Stars currently sit in third place in Group F, with just two points from four games, and are aiming to qualify for the tournament against all odds.

To secure qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco, Ghana needs to win both of their remaining matches and hope Sudan loses its upcoming games against Niger and Angola.
