Bono ‘Youth caucus for Alan’ declares support for Dr Bawumia in Election

The executives and members of the Bono Regional branch of the ‘Youth Caucus for Alan,’ have declared their support and pledged commitment to Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate.

They promised to work hard in the electioneering to ensure Alhaji Dr Bawumia won the General Election in the region with a wider margin.
The caucus said it was untrue that they had left the NPP to join the Movement for Change, and asked the leadership and the entire NPP to ignore the claims, calling for a more formidable front in the electioneering.
The caucus said they comprised of a group of NPP youth which were in support of Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten’s bid to become the Election 2024 flag-bearer during the NPP’s Presidential primaries.
“However, when Mr Kyeremanten did not win the presidential primaries and left with others to form his Movement for Change, we did not go with him, neither are we members of that movement,” says Mr Jeffrey Kwarteng Brobbey, the leader of the Bono Regional branch of the ‘Youth Caucus for Alan”.
Addressing a new conference in Sunyani to set the records straight, Mr Kwarteng said, “we are still committed to the cause of and remain loyal members of the great elephant family. In fact, there is no way we shall desert the great NPP and join any Movement.”
He was flanked by Simon Kyeremeh, in-charge of operations, Marvin Aboagye, Secretary and Kwasi Gyamfi an organiser as well as about 100 members of the Caucus.
Mr Brobbey explained that as a political party which cherished internal democracy, the NPP’s constitution allowed every member to support his or her choice of candidate during internal elections, however, “the moment after internal elections are over then we must all come together to support our flagbearer.”
“The executives and entire members of the caucus met after our primaries, and we want to set the records straight that there is nothing like the Youth Caucus for Alan in the Bono Region anymore. We are all NPP members, and we are working in the interest of our party,” he said.
Mr Brobbey explained as a vibrant youth, loyal and dedicated to the course of the NPP, they had re-strategised and worked hard to reach out to propagate the unprecedented achievements of the Party to the voter population at the grassroots level.
“We are also determined to ensure that Dr Bawumia and his running mate Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh are well marketed to enhance the fortunes of our great party in the Election 2024,” he stated.
Mr Brobbey said it was also incumbent on every member and supporter of the NPP to contribute to the electioneering, saying he was optimistic that the party would break the eight and retain political power.
Mr Kyeremeh emphasised that the Election 2024 was closer, and remained crucial to the NPP, and called on members to allow the interest of the Party to remain supreme, work hard in the electioneering to ensure a massive win in the December 7, polls.

Somètutu Za launched for the second time

The Chiefs and People of Somé in the Somé Traditional Area of the Volta Region have launched the 2024 ‘Sométutu Za’ (festival) this year, on the theme: “Sustaining Peace and Unity of Somé for Development.”

The launch took place in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital on Saturday.

Torgbui Adamah III, the Makorsor of Somé and President of the Somé Traditional Council, emphasised the importance of unity for development in Somé and the entire region.

“There will be no development if the people are not united. For us as Someawo we are not different from Klikorwo, Avenorwo, and others. We are one people,” he noted.

He explained that any development for the people of Klikor or Avenor is the same as the development for Someawo and the rest of the Eweland.

Highlighting the significance of the festival, Torgbui Adamah III urged all citizens to embrace their true identity and tell their own stories.

“I want every Somé descendant to identify and show their true identity and tell their own stories,” he said, indicating that they should not allow anyone else to narrate their history.

He also refuted claims that Somé was under Anlo, explaining that since their forefathers migrated from Notsé, they had been independent.

“We were called Aguadzeawo different from Dogboawo, before settling at Keta. From Keta, we had to move due to intimidation and settled in our current location, hence the name ‘Someawo.”

Torgbui Adamah also called for support for the Volta Regional representative in this year’s TV3 reality show Ghana’s Most Beautiful beauty pageant.

Mr. Divine Bosson, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ho, advised the people to unite for development and urged them not to allow political parties to divide them.

The launch aimed to mobilise all natives of Somé residing outside the Somé Traditional Area towards common development goals, and to raise funds to support the main festival.

Sométutu Za is an annual Festival celebrating the migration history of the Somé forefathers and their eventual settlement in Somé.

Additionally, the festival showcased the rich culture of Somé and highlighted the diverse occupations and their sustainable livelihoods, including Kente cloth weaving, starch and coconut biscuit production, fishing, and coconut oil production.

The launch was attended by Somé descendants living in Ho and its environs, as well as other prominent individuals.

Bechem unites for peaceful walk ahead of Elections.

Various Institutions in the Bechem Municipality of the Ahafo Region have organized a special health and peace walk aimed at promoting a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the December general elections.

Participants comprising of workers of the institutions and the public converged at the Community Centre for aerobics and were addressed by political leaders, security heads, and departmental heads.

Among the speakers were the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Collins Offinam Takyi; Chief Superintendent Joseph Oppong, Bechem Divisional Police Commander; Dr. Isaac Godfred Antwi, Principal of Bechem St. Joseph College of Education; Dr. Twumasi David, Medical Superintendent of the Bechem Government Hospital; and Mr. Mark Agyemang, manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Other speakers included Mr. Joseph Appiah, representing the Member of parliament for the area (MP) for the area, Dr. Yeboah Sekyere; Mr. Charles Asiedu, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate; and Mr. Christopher Kofi Nti, New Force, and Independent Parliamentary Candidate.

The speakers emphasized the need to preserve peace in the area and Ghana by going through the election peacefully and orderly.

Chief Superintendent Joseph Oppong, Bechem Divisional Police Commander, assured the public of the security agencies’ readiness to ensure a peaceful atmosphere and cautioned the youth not to sacrifice uutheir lives for selfish individuals.

He warned that the security agencies would deal ruthlessly with anyone who disturbed the peace.

The participants were happy and commended the organizers for the exercise, saying it was a demonstration of the institutions’ commitment to serve the nation with unity of mind and purpose.

24-Hour Economy will boost job creation – Prof Opoku-Agyemang

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Running- Mate to the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Election 2024, says the party’s 24-Hour Economy policy will address some of the challenges bedeviling the economy and provide jobs for the youth.

Addressing members of the NDC Professionals Forum at the University of Cape Coast, she said: “We don’t have money, our currency is where it is heading to, which is not a good place. We can’t pay our debt, and we are in a crisis worse than we imagined.”

She said Ghana was broke and needed a quick fix.

This forms part of Prof. Opoku Agyemang’s three-day campaign tour to the Central Region, a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said on Tuesday.

She said with the high unemployment rate in the country, the NDC’s 24-Hour policy and the National Apprenticeship programme were quick answers.

She noted that the unemployment rate was giving the NDC Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, sleepless nights, hence the decision to implement the 24-hour Economy and create decent jobs for Ghanaians.

“Some people claiming to be economists are deliberately saying it won’t work and the NDC hasn’t thought through it well. But interestingly, the same people are now saying, their government is already implementing the policy,” she said.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang said political campaigns were about the sharing of ideas and therefore, urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to tell Ghanaians what it could do to alleviate their pain.

She urged Ghanaians to vote massively for Mr Mahama in the December 7 general election to enable him to fulfill his promise of creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.

World Breastfeeding Week: Nutritionist stresses on personal hygiene

Ms Vera Boakye, the Nutritionist at the Tema General Hospital, says practicing personal hygiene as a lactating mother is essential in keeping the baby happy and healthy.

“It is important to also use disposable nursing pads to soak breastmilk drippling into the brassier, which could be breeding grounds for germs and bacteria causing infections and diseases for the baby,” she said.

Ms Boakye said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in commemoration of the World Breastfeeding Week, being celebrated on the theme: “Closing the Gap, Breastfeeding Support for All.”

She said personal hygiene went beyond bathing twice a day to the continuous washing of hands and nipple surroundings, as well as regular changing and washing of braziers and drying them under the sun.

Bacteria from dirty hands, a dirty brazier filled with sweat and drops of breastmilk could affect the immune system of the baby and cause diarrhoea, she noted.

Ms. Boakye said feeding equipment for babies must also be well washed and kept neatly, stressing the reduction of the use of feeding bottles because some babies became very comfortable with the feeding bottle and neglected the breast.

She suggested the use of a cup and spoon in feeding the baby, whether with breastmilk or with water, after the six-month exclusive breastfeeding period.

“This is because food particles could remain in the bottles and be used to feed the baby again, introducing bacteria into their bodies.”

NDC PC distributes reflective jackets to motorbike riders.

Mr. Nelson Kofi Djabab, the parliamentary candidate(PC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)for Krachi East Constituencyhas distributed 100 reflective jackets to commercial motorcycle riders at Dormabin and Dambai to ensure safety of riders.

The distributionaims to improve road safety consciousness among motor riders before, during and after the December polls.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview, that, the exercise was to ensure the security of lives and properties as one of the strategic pillars in the roadmap for sustainable development.

MrDjabab said it was also to separate authentic motorbike riders from miscreants who parade as motorcycle operators but engage in criminality.

The parliamentary candidate engaged riders in areas such as Dormabin, Tokuroano and Dambai to educate them on adhering to road safety measures which include respecting the traffic roles and the rights of other road users.

“I hope this campaign will remind riders of the need to ride properly to prevent avoidable accidents and fatalities,” he told motorcycle operators.

Mr Djabab said the reflective jackets have a unique identifier, adding that each commercial motorcycle rider jacket has been branded with “Building the Krachi East We Want Together.”

He urged riders to always be in their protective gear.

Mr Djababused the opportunity to express the next NDC government’s commitment to invest in the youth in all ways possible.

Oti Regional Minister visits iron ore exploration site.

The Oti Regional Minister, Assistant Superintendent of Prison (ASP) Daniel Machator (rtd.), has visited Asato-Gyamonomeiron ore exploration site in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region and expressed satisfaction with the work done so far.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the site, ASP Machator (Rtd), said after “things are going on smoothly.”

He added: “Enough engagement has been done with the Asato and Gyamonome community members by the African Exploration and Minerals Group Limited, the company doing the exploration.”

The Minister said his office had also invited the youth of Asato, who earlier raised concerns over lack of engagement and that everything had since been smooth.

ASP Machator (Rtd), who was accompanied to the site by Mr. Wilson Kwami Agbanyo, the Kadjebi District Chief Executive, said a committeewas set up to liaise between the community and the exploration group to ensure transparency.

On the exploration, he said after the initial exploration, it was found out that,“we had iron ore deposit in the Gyamonome bloc and that the second exploration, which is on-going would reveal if we have deposits of commercial quantity to decide the next step for government to whether to allow people to bid for concession to do proper mining.”

ASP Machator said they were positive that after the exploration there would be a sizeable amount of iron ore to pave way for invitation from companies to do actual mining.

He said the actual mining would “boost the local economy and bring developmental projects to the areas.

Mr. Solomon Essah, a Field Geologist with the African Exploration and Minerals Groups Limited, in an interview with the GNA at the site, said the exploration would give them information on the grade and how much iron ore they have in the Gyamonome bloc to give a definite estimate.

A geological survey led to the discovery of 55.22 per cent weight and in a higher-grade iron ore with possibility of prospecting in five communities-Asato, Wawaso, Gyamonome, Kosamba and Ketepii communities in the Kadjebi District.

Founder of Agrihouse Foundation, Nana Akyaa Alberta Akosa, has been named South America’s “Rally Mulheres do Agro” Ambassador, the first time an African has been recognised with that award.

The Award recognises her exceptional contributions to women in agriculture.

The ceremony, which took place in the State of Pará, the second-largest state in Brazil, places on her a crucial role in strengthening agribusiness trade between Ghana and Brazil, where her focus would be facilitating knowledge exchange, fostering collaborations and creating opportunities for mutual growth and development.

She would also strengthen the work of women in agriculture in Ghana alongside Rally Mulheres do Agro through practical actions an communication such as enhancing skills and knowledge of women farmers with technological innovations.

Nana Akyaa Akosa, after receiving the award, thanked the organisers of Rally Mulheres do Agro and stated that the recognition had been humbling and called for deeper reflection, a news brief from Agrihouse Foundation, said.

“As I reflect on the honor, it is humbling to be acknowledged by those who see the impact of our work on youth, women, farmers with disabilities, smallholders and commercial farmers, and value chain players,” she said.

Nana Akyaa Akosa said the recognition was not just for her, but for all women who dared to dream, adding that every woman who persisted with passion and determination nurtured her inner potential.

“I am now entrusted with the responsibility to use my voice to advocate for women from other African communities, highlighting the importance of growing agriculture with a global mindset and approach. We will strive to ensure strong African representation and participation in this event annually,” she noted.

Mr Marcelo Souza, Chief Executive Officer, Grupo Manancial, who is also the Chief Editor of RevistaAgrícola and Mulheres do Agro magazines, said Nana Akyaa Akosa’s work would inspire millions of women in Brazil, Ghana, and beyond.

“Her role as the first international ambassador will pave the way for greater collaboration and empowerment in the agricultural sector. Her leadership and advocacy have already made significant impacts in Ghana, and we are excited to see how her influence will expand through her role as our ambassador,” he said.

Madam Abena P. A. Busia, Ghana’s Ambassador to Brazil, who hosted Nana Akyaa Akosa at her residence after the event, said the relationships established between Ghana, Brazil, and South America would be strengthened through the collaboration.

The award celebrates women who have made significant contributions to the sector and since its inception, it has honoured female leaders who exhibited excellence, innovation and leadership.

The two-day event brought together women farmers and agribusiness professionals from different continents to share insights and experiences.

The second day saw attendees participating in an innovative field tour and visiting a farm managed by a 24-year-old woman cultivating 260,000 acres of soybeans, sugarcane and millet.

Korea supports Ghana’s taekwondo mission to Youth Olympic Games.

The Korean Government has thrown its weight behind Ghana’s mission to make a strong appearance in taekwondo at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.

Mr Park Kyongsig, the Korean Ambassador to Ghana, said it was an agenda fully supported by his Government as the West African nation had the potential to exploit the optimum benefits of the sport, especially by participating at the highest level.

“We will continue to assist in the development and progress of taekwondo in Ghana,” he affirmed while addressing the closing ceremony of the 14th Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship, at the Trust Sports Emporium, Accra.

Taekwondo, one of the disciplines of martial arts, has been officially included as one of 25 sports forthe Youth Olympic Games.

Its structure is based on the Korean martial art of Hapkido, which is a self-defence system.

It is one of the most popular martial arts in the world and an Olympic sport since 2000.

On the 2024 Korean Ambassador’s Cup Championship, the national event saw young Ghanaian taekwondo practitioners put up a sublime display, with emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, as well as fast kicking techniques.

Over the years, the competition has served as a useful tool in nurturing talents for the nation, which is seeking to develop martial arts to an appreciable standard.

Greater Accra Region won this year’s Championship with 185 points, Volta Region came second with 72 points, followed by Ashanti Region which placed third with 68 points.

Trophies and medals were presented to the winning teams and distinguished individual performers at the event, organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Ghana Taekwondo Federation.

MrKyongsigelaborated the cardinal concept of taekwondo, saying it imbued a high sense of discipline among practitioners.

Those embracing the practice should always demonstrate the essential virtues of mutual respect, integrity, perseverance, self-control and endurance, he advised.

According to the Ambassador, there was the need for the youth to take keen interest in taekwondo to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing.

MrLarteyOtu, President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, lauded the participating athletes at this year’s Championship for their hard work and sense of discipline.

Beach Soccer: Black Sharks defeat Sand Elephants to book AFCON spot.

The senior male National Beach Soccer team, the Black Sharks has defeated Ivorian Sand Elephants by 5 -2 in the Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations qualifiers return leg held in Abidjan on Saturday.

The back-to-back victory over the Ivorian side by the Black Sharks have secured them qualification to the 2024 African Cup of Nations in Egypt after a historic 10-5 aggregate from the two encounters.

The Black Sharks were down by 2:1 in the first period in a well patronised match played in Abidjan Saturday.

The Black Sharks of Ghana in the second period displayed a spectacular comeback to equalise through Wise Nyamadi before Captain Alex Osa increased the tally to three for Ghana in the second period.

Late goals from Precious Togbor and Jude Akile sealed the win for Ghana as well as qualifying the team to the upcoming Beach Soccer AFCON tournament.

Julius Caesar Bekley, the Assistant Coach of the team, in an interaction with the Ghana News Agency, said the victory has sealed the dream of qualifying to the Beach Soccer AFCON that would be staged in Cairo, Egypt from August 26 to 31, 2024.

“The journey of AFCON qualification is over, what we are going to do now is to get the team prepared adequately for the main Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt in August,” he stated.

He further stated that the team was in a high spirit after securing a 5:3 resounding victory over the Sand Elephants at Keta, Emancipation Beach Soccer Arena in the first leg fixture on July 21.

Bekley commended Chiefs, heads of institutions, journalists, Ghana Football Association executives, Ghana Supporters Union, Emancipation cultural troupes, fans among others for their various support that secured qualification for the team.

Ghana Black Sharks would now prepare for the AFCON alongside other countries including Nigeria, Mozambique, Mauritania, Morocco, Tanzania, Malawi, as well as the defending champions Senegal and the host, Egypt.
