Belgium Sees Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as ‘Good Basis’ for Solution

0

Belgium considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented in 2007, as “a serious and credible effort by Morocco and a good basis for a solution accepted by the parties.”

This position was expressed in the joint declaration adopted at the 3rd meeting of the Moroccan-Belgian High Joint Partnership Commission, co-chaired this Monday in Rabat by Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, and Belgian Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo.

In this context, De Croo reiterated “Belgium’s long-standing support for the process led by the United Nations for a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution for the parties,” read the Declaration.

On this occasion, the two parties agreed on “the exclusivity of the UN in the political process and reaffirmed their support for UN Security Council resolution 2703 (2023), which noted the role and responsibility of the parties in the search for a realistic, pragmatic, lasting political solution based on compromise,” added the declaration.

Judicial Service develops new Practice Directions, Administrative Guideline

0

The Judicial Service has developed new Practice Directions and Administrative Guidelines to promote ethical behaviour by Judicial Service Staff and Judges.

The Directions and Guidelines are Practice Directions on Commercial Pre-Trial Settlement under order 58 as amended by CI 133, Practice Directions in Respect of Prerogative Writs Involving Chiefs and Chieftaincy Issues, Practice Directions on Award of Cost, Practice Directions on Plea Bargaining, Practice Directions on Adjournments and Adoption of Proceedings in Part Heard Trials and Practice Directions on Court Connected ADR under Order 32 as Amended by CI 133.

The rest are Practice Directions for Determination of Applications for Injunctions to restrain Burial of a Deceased Person, Administrative Directions to Aid Expeditious Disposal of Trial by Jury, Administrative Guidelines on Using the Supreme Court Registry, Administrative Guidelines on Generation of Suit Numbers, Administrative Guidelines for procedures For Online publication of judgments and rulings and Administrative Guidelines on Court room Proceedings.

The Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo made this known at the launch of an initiative dubbed “LEADing Justice”, a strategic framework for increasing Legality, Ethics, Assets, Digitalisation, and due process in justice delivery.

She said the purpose was to increase transparency, competence, due process, and integrity in court work.

“I earnestly do not think that when dealing with such a national responsibility as justice delivery, anyone can even move fast when walking alone,” she said.

She said that was why the Judiciary sought partners in developing effective programmes for culture change, and other interventions that would increase ethical models of work in the Judicial Service.

Social CJ Vision We need modern archive centre to store court records- Chief Justice

The Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo says there is an urgent need to build a modern archive centre to store all records.

She said that would ensure easy retrievals whenever citizens and court users needed them.

The Chief Justice was speaking at the launch of an initiative dubbed ‘LEADing Justice’, a strategic framework for increasing Legality, Ethics, Assets, Digitalisation, and due process in justice delivery.

The new reforms form part of her vision for improved capacity of all workers within the justice delivery system and a continuous drive towards efficiency.

She said as the documents were being stored, they must be digitised for electronic storage and easy retrieval.

“Again, it is only after digitisation that we can even remotely anticipate effective e-justice.

Because virtual trials cannot be conducted without electronic dockets,” she added.

The Chief Justice said it was a strong goal of the vision statement to move registries into paperless modes as soon as possible.

She said the LEADing Justice vision was anchored on the high use of technology to increase speed and transparency in the justice delivery process.

Justice Torkornoo said goals had been set for digital libraries so that all staff and judges would have access to learning, notwithstanding, which part of the country they were.

“Goals have also been set to obtain centrally managed transcription rooms for the early processing of court proceedings so that requests for court processes cannot be affected by localised interests within the courtroom,” she added.

She said that would remove the burden of court users paying courtroom recorders to produce transcripts of proceedings.

The Chief Justice said it would also ensure that records were made available to stakeholders without unnecessary waste of time and costs through travelling to a registry, queuing to pay for a record, and being told to go and come back.

The Chief Justice said land mapping, verification of property details from records on property rates with District Assemblies, verification of details of vehicles from DVLA, and verification of account holding in banks during execution processes, could all be easily done via dedicated and authenticated e-processes between the courts and the relevant institution.

“This can save staff from institutions spending productive time in court just to relay information,” she added.

She said many of those electronic verification processes would cut out the horrible spectre of forgeries that the courts sometimes experienced.

The second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs in the Western Region would give a boost to agro-processing as a means of improving the agricultural value chain.

This is also to ensure that food crops produced from the programme did not go to waste through post-harvest losses as many small and medium processing companies would be resourced to maximise the use of PJF end products.

The Western Regional Minister, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the various District Assemblies were working with farmers to make funds or processing equipment available to them to increase profitability in the value chain.

The Western Region, vested with many arable lands, is home to coconut, cocoa, rubber, palm trees production aside from plantain, cassava, cocoa, potatoes, maize, tomatoes, pepper, okro, garden eggs and others crops.

Mr. Darko-Mensah said the Youth were the focus of the second phase in the Region to empower them economically.

He said enterprising the Region was the key pillar which could be achieved through greater private sector involvement with the youth as backbone for growth.

The Western Regional Minister encouraged the many unemployed Youth in the Region to take advantage of the project to change or improve their living conditions.

Additions made to Telecel Ghana Music Awards nominations list

The Board of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) has made a few changes to this year’s nomination list following the one-week window for errors and omissions.

Following the release of the 2024 TGMA nominations list a few weeks ago, some artistes made submissions for a review of nominations, and the board heeded their requests.

A press statement released by the TGMA Board said, “The collaborative submission, initially filed as a featured work (Lonely Road, by O’Kenneth ft. Xlim Kid), has been the subject of a correction.

“The management of both artistes pointed out that ‘Lonely Road’ was a joint project by O’Kenneth ft. Xlim Kid and not a feature. This Board noted this and has corrected the nomination to reflect ‘Lonely Road,’ by O’Kenneth and Xlim Kid.

“The Board considered and nominated the Kwaku Ananse’ remix in the Best Hiplife Song category instead of the song’s original version. This affected the song’s consideration in the Most Popular Song of the Year category.

“The Board reviewed this and consequently nominated ‘Kwaku Ananse’ by Amerado to replace the remix version in the Best Highlife category. The song has also been nominated in the Most Popular Song of the Year category.”

The statement also reiterated the board’s commitment to ensure fairness in the TGMA’s and thanked stakeholders for their support of the scheme for the past 25 years.

Ghana’s Futsal AFCON campaign ends with three defeats

0

Ghana’s hopes of advancing to the next round of the 2024 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been shattered following their 11-3 loss to Angola in the last group match.

Ghana has suffered some devastating losses at the ongoing tournament as they were pummelled by hosts Morocco and Zambia in their opening two matches.

Ghana’s national futsal team, heading into their last match against the Sable Antelopes of Angola, were confident of a big scalp that could propel them to the knockout stages.

But Coach Philip Boakye and his lads fell short of upsetting the odds despite a good display of futsal skills in a pulsating encounter against the Angolans.

Ghana thus exits the tournament with no points, while Angola and Morocco progress from Group A to the next round.

This was Ghana’s second appearance at the Futsal AFCON, with their debut in 1996 having made an impressive run to the finals, where they lost to Egypt.

Coach Ogum absent as irate fans storm Adako Jachie to register their displeasure

0

Prosper Nartey Ogum Head Coach of Asante Kotoko and his entire technical team did not show up the club’s training ground on Tuesday.

Irate fans stormed the place to register their displeasure over the poor performance of the team in the Ghana Premier League.

The fans numbering about 15 arrived at the Adako JachieTraining Complex in a mini van ahead of the team bus at about 1440 hours, a source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Sports in Kumasi.

About 20 minutes later, the team bus arrived and for more 10 minutes, the players were seated in the bus, fuelling a tensed atmosphere as the fans patiently waited for them to get out of the bus.

When they finally came down, they were verbally abused by the fans but none of them was attacked as they walked onto the pitch without the technical team.

Some of the aggrieved fans, according to the source, were heard asking the whereabouts of the coach on top of their voices, apparently to confront him on the lack of results in the ongoing premier league.

Despite the chaos and confusion outside the pitch, the players were seen warming up ahead of their training programme of the day but had to stop at some point when it became clear the technical team was not coming.

After losing to Dreams FC at Dawu on Sunday, supporters of Asante Kotoko have been calling for the resignation of Coach Ogum and his technical team to save the club from further sinking on the league table.

There have also been rumours of a possible invasion of the training ground by supporting to block  the embattled coach from performing his duties in the local media since Monday.

It is believed that the coach and his backroom staff might have picked information about the intended disruption of their work hence their decision not to show up at training today.

As to whether they would be allowed to prepare the team for their next game against Samartex remains uncertain.
