Kaana Farms CEO advocates better structures for youth to go into agriculture

0

Mr Seth Dganamah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kaana Farms, has expressed worry over the continuous sale and forceful acquisition of arable farmlands in the country, especially for mining purposes.

Many farmers had become extremely worried and having sleepless nights over the issue, which calls for rapt government intervention.

Mr Dganamah, 76, made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kasoa in the Central Region on Wednesday where he brought some farm produce for sale at cheaper prices to encourage the youth to take up agriculture as profession.

He advocated that policy makers must create the enabling environment and boost the morale of the youth to venture into agriculture, particularly mango and coconut farming, which had become lucrative.

Research, he said, showed that mango and coconut cultivation were extremely profitable with ready markets.

“Mango and coconut cultivation can help address the increasing unemployment rate among the youth if they should go into these crops farming,” Mr Dganamah said.

However, he observed that the availability of land would play a key role in this venture and appealed to traditional authorities and landowners to consider giving portions to the youth to cultivate to become self-sufficient and reduce the unemployment rate.

He reiterated the call to stop the rampant sale of farmlands in the interest of peace, tranquility and the development of the country.

“Agriculture is the backbone of every economy, providing raw materials and revenue for communities globally,” he said.

Mr Dganamah, the 2007 Shai- Osudoku Best Farmer and 2012 National Best Crop Farmer, said he started farming in 1991 with agro afforestation on a125 -acre land and later added mango and coconut, which had been very lucrative.

His long-standing and rich expertise in best farming practices had given him the opportunity to be a council member of school farming project in the Shai-Osudoku District.

He expressed appreciation to all who in diverse ways had supported him in this successful adventure.

Regional Minister urges Muslims to continue with Ramadan lessons

0

Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, the Northern Regional Minister, has called on Muslims to continue practising the lessons learnt from the Ramadan to ensure peace and togetherness during this year’s election and thereafter.

“This is important for the country’s prosperity, well-being, advancement and development,” he said.

Alhaji Saibu made the call on Wednesday while addressing a gathering of Muslims in Tamale to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

He encouraged them to practise self-discipline, self-control, offer sacrifice, and have empathy for the less privileged.

“It should, therefore, be evident that we have been granted the benefit of increased bodily and spiritual proximity to the Almighty Allah after going through such a serene period of sacrifice,” he said.

“We must strive to enhance the collaboration with the security agencies as this is crucial to the overall creation of a conducive environment for investors to come to the region.”

The Minister urged religious leaders to continue to educate the citizenry, especially the youth, on the need to maintain peace in the region and the nation in general.

Sheikh Bamba urges Muslims to uphold Ramadan values all year-round

Sheikh Mohammed Amin Bamba, the Principal Chief Imam, Masjidul Qudwah Mosque, Tamale, has advised Muslims to continue to uphold the values of forgiveness, charity and kindness throughout the year.

That was important for all to live in harmony and peace, as well as ensure the progress of the country, he said.

Sheikh Bamba gave the advice while addressing Muslims at the mosque on Wednesday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Tamale.

He advised the people not to revisit the wrongs but rather pursue a positive dream of purpose.

“Let’s not forget the lessons we have learned during this sacred month and strive to carry them forward in our daily lives.”

“As we conclude the blessed month and celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr today, there’s the need for us to carry the spirit of generosity, compassion and unity that we have fostered throughout these 30 days.”

Sheikh Bamba urged the congregation to support one another and work towards the betterment of society.

He prayed for the success and development of the country, while calling for a continuation of prayers for the leaders of the State.

Arteta laughing as Liverpool target makes big Arsenal transfer hint amid Premier League ‘dream’

0

Larsson is a 19-year-old central midfielder who came through the Malmo academy in Sweden and went on to play 61 times in their first team. Larsson’s impressive performances for Malmo saw him attract the attention of several Bundesliga clubs last summer, with Eintracht Frankfurt ultimately winning the transfer race.

Frankfurt paid €9million for the 19-year-old and he has so far played 32 times for his new club, with 23 of those appearances coming in the Bundesliga.

One of Larsson’s best moments in a Frankfurt shirt so far came during the shock 5-1 thrashing of Bayern Munich on December 9, when he took on Dayot Upamecano before slotting into the bottom corner to put Frankfurt 3-0 up.

The teenager’s spell at Frankfurt could be short though, as Premier League clubs are expected to come calling ahead of next season.

In February, reports revealed that both Arsenal and Liverpool had begun chasing Larsson, who has been compared with Manchester City enforcer Rodri.

As Frankfurt have tied him down to a long contract which runs until June 2028, they could demand as much as €80m (£68m) to sell him.

Neither Arsenal or Liverpool will want to pay that hefty sum. Although, there is a chance Larsson will push to move to England in the near future.

Frankfurt star admires Declan Rice

Ahead of Frankfurt’s trip to Stuttgart on Saturday, the Sweden international was on press conference duty. As reported by Kicker, he admitted that he ‘dreams’ of starring in the Premier League one day.

When asked about Arsenal star Declan Rice, who takes up similar positions to Larsson, the youngster added: “He’s a similar type of player to me. He does a lot of good things offensively and defensively, I look up to him.”

It is clear that if both Arsenal and Liverpool enter negotiations for Larsson, he is likely to choose the North London side so he can learn from Rice.

Exclusive: Newcastle target Brighton midfielder with hefty fee expected amid De Zerbi fears

0

Gilmour, a 22-year-old Scotland international, has been a mainstay in the Brighton side under De Zerbi this season, having arrived in September 2022.

Although Gilmour was not unknown when he joined Brighton, his move to the Seaside town from Chelsea for just under £9million in September 2022 was seen as a real coup for the club.

Brighton are a club many point to as the example of how to do business, with their ability to find talented players and sell them for huge profits what sets them apart.

Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Marc Cucurella and Ben White are among players Brighton have sold for significant fees in recent years.

Gilmour could be the latest star to move after joining for a modest fee, with sources informing us there is a ‘serious chance’ he could leave in the summer amid interest from rival Premier League sides and around Europe.

Newcastle are keen to strengthen their squad and the Rangers academy product is a player they have looked at, with his age and experience in the English top flight making him an attractive prospect to the Magpies.

There is also hope a deal can be done for a decent fee and Gilmour ticks a lot of boxes as, according to sources, Eddie Howe is keen to add more “ball players” to his midfield ranks.

Gilmour has shown he is technically superb for club and country and his agents at CAA Stellar have taken a number of enquiries over the potential of a deal in recent months.

De Zerbi frustrated by Brighton transfer stance

De Zerbi is a huge admirer of the Scottish star and has grown frustrated at Brighton selling its brightest talents, despite that being the model at the club for a number of years.

Liverpool, Man Utd tipped as suitors with Newcastle told to sell star in club-record deal

0

Newcastle United have surprisingly been urged to cash in on record signing Alexander Isak this summer with one observer suggesting he is too injury prone and with Liverpool or Manchester United touted as potential destinations.

The Sweden striker moved to St James’ Park in summer 2022, the Magpies paying a club-record £63m for the 24-year-old striker. Now in his second season as a Newcastle player, Isak is one of the first names on their teamsheet having established himself as Eddie Howe’s first choice No 9 ahead of Callum Wilson.

A huge fans’ favourite, Isak has scored 29 goals in 59 appearances so far, operating at close to a goal every other game. However, having only featured in 27 games last season, the Sweden international has something of a chequered fitness record, having spent several spells on the sidelines.

The worst of those saw the 44-times capped star miss 106 days from September 2022 to January 2023, while he has also suffered with groin injuries during his time in the North-East.

And with Newcastle walking a tight financial tightrope due to FFP regulations, it’s been reported on more than one occasion that the Magpies may need to cash in on more than one big-name star to help balance the books and fund a summer spending spree.

To that end, Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for Isak, amid claims a £70m offer could tempt them to cash in. Those rumours have been fuelled by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who has confirmed the former Borussia Dortmund man is on Mikel Arteta’s radar.

Nonetheless, TEAMtalk sources have informed us that Eddie Howe is determined to hang on to the Magpies No 14 and would prefer to sell a number of his fringe stars instead.

Newcastle told to sell Isak; Liverpool, Man Utd touted as suitors

Nonetheless, former Newcastle defender Jose Enrique has urged Howe to think twice and feels that, given the player’s questionable injury record, he is someone the club should be looking to cash in on – especially given the club-record £70m fee being bandied about.

“The problem with Alexander Isak, and we’ve said this about him even when he was at Real Sociedad, is that he’s always injured,” Enrique, who played for Newcastle between 2007 and 2011, told Grosvenor Sport.

“The way Newcastle want to play is with high intensity and pressing from the front and you can’t be expected to fulfil that if you’re getting three or four injuries every year.

“Callum Wilson has exactly the same problem, by the way. He misses far too many games too. If someone comes along and offers them the £70m that they spent to sign him in the first place then they need to think about it.

“I don’t understand how the owners with all their money have come along and bought the club yet they’re not being allowed to spend like Manchester City and Chelsea have done in the past. The reality is that they’re performing badly against FFP regulations and are going to have to sell someone.

“It’s not just a question of quality. I think Isak is that good that he can play for Liverpool or Manchester United, for example. But it’s a question of availability too.

“He’s too injury prone, to the extent that if someone came with a lot of money this summer which gave Newcastle the opportunity to sign someone slightly worse but consistently fit, they’d have to consider that option.”

Isak makes clear wish over Newcastle future

Despite that questionable injury record, Isak has still managed to score 19 goals in all competitions this season, and with 15 in 23 Premier League games, he is the competition’s joint-sixth top scorer this term.

While Enrique’s judgement could be considered questionable at best – that’s the very definition of flawed logic right there – luckily for Newcastle the player himself is in no immediate hurry to leave.

Howe has also made clear his wish to keep the player, stating recently: “He’s an outstanding talent and no one connected with Newcastle would want to lose him.

Arsenal sensationally burst back into Ivan Toney race as cut-price fee emerges for Man Utd, Chelsea target

0

Toney looks destined to leave Brentford this summer, as he has repeatedly spoken about joining a top club and testing himself out at a higher level, such as in the Champions League. Plus, both Brentford manager Thomas Frank and technical director Lee Dykes have admitted it is likely the centre-forward will be sold.

Arsenal were previously the best-placed club to snare Toney, with Mikel Arteta keen to add a truly lethal striker to his attack.

The Gunners were given a major boost when Toney told the Diary of a CEO podcast that he would love to play for them.

But Arsenal then turned their attention towards Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, who has netted an incredible 36 goals in 42 appearances this season.

Arsenal’s decision to move on from Toney opened the door for other Premier League giants such as Man Utd, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

But according to an update from Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal have decided to go back in for the 28-year-old and could soon initiate talks with Brentford.

Arsenal and Chelsea are the clubs currently leading the race, while a West Ham United ‘enquiry’ appears to have fallen flat.

Ivan Toney price tag plummets

Previously, Brentford have been tipped to demand as much as £100million for the striker, while other reports have suggested he will be on the move for £80m.

But Plettenberg gives Toney’s potential suitors a significant lift by stating that the transfer can be agreed for just £30-40m.

Signing Toney for £40m or less would represent a stunning bargain, given the current market.

For example, Sporting want upwards of £65m for Gyokeres, and potentially as much as £85m. Chelsea-linked Victor Osimhen, meanwhile, has a whopping £111m release clause in his Napoli contract.

Toney has an advantage over Gyokeres as he already possesses Premier League experience, having scored an impressive 36 goals in 81 matches in the English top flight.

Ruben Amorim orders Liverpool to sign THREE Sporting players to kickstart revolution; FSG stunned at cost

0

Ruben Amorim has reportedly told Liverpool chiefs he would like to bring three Sporting Lisbon stars with him to Anfield upon his appointment as manager as he plots to ensure the Reds remains at very top of the Enlgish and European game.

The Merseysiders have seemingly chosen the 39-year-old Portuguese coach to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, with the German to step down at the season’s end after close to nine years in charge at Liverpool. And while Klopp and his players are intent on bowing out his era on a high – their campaign to win the Europa League continues on Thursday night when they host Atalanta at Anfield in the first leg of the quatrer-finals – work on landing his successor is very much gathering pace behind the scenes.

Indeed, TEAMtalk exclusively revealed back in February that previous first choice Xabi Alonso was to reject the Anfield job, leaving Liverpool instead to fully focus on Amorim’s apppointment.

And with Amorim effectively going public with his wish to be considered for the top job at Anfield, Michael Edwards – Liverpool’s CEO of football, who is leading the hunt for Klopp’s successor – was left with an open goal to nail down his appointment.

Since then, our sources have informed us that Amorim has told Sporting that he would like to leave for Liverpool if the two clubs can agree on a deal.

The Reds plan to offer the 39-year-old a three-year deal and with it a giant transfer budget to help maintain the Reds at the top of English and European game.

As a result, planning for life after Klopp at Anfield appears to be gathering pace at a rate of knots.

Next Liverpool manager: Amorim asks Liverpool to sign three Sporting stars

To that end, Wednesday’s Euro Paper Talk detailed a potential first signing for Liverpool in the form of FC Porto’s excellent Argentinian midfielder Alan Varela.

A tigerish midfielder, Varela has exceeded in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and comes with a hefty €70m exit clause in his deal.

Indeed, signing players he is familiar with and knows from his time in Portugal appears very much in Amorim’s thinking and, according to Portuguese news outlet Jornal Noticias, the 39-year-old is keen to bring three Sporting CP players with him to Anfield.

Sticking with the base of midfield, Amorim is reportedly keen on a deal to bring in their all-action midfielder Morten Hjulmand, who has made a big impression since a €15m move from Lecce last summer.

Now rated in the €50m (£42.8m) mark, he is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Primeira Liga, having also emerged on Manchester United’s radar.

However, it is the centre of defence for where Amorim would reportedly most like to strengthen, with the expected departure of Joel Matip this summer leaving Liverpool with a gap to fill.

And rather than just bring one Sporting Lisbon centre-half with him, the report claims Amorim wants two in the form of Goncalo Inacio and Ousmade Diomande.

Deals for the both would set Liverpool back a further €60m to €70m (£51.4m to £59.9m) apiece, taking the potential triple outlay soaring towards the €200m (£171m) mark when you factor in Amorim’s release clause too.

While that may seem a little excessive, it’s claimed Amorim has pointed to the time Ibrahima Konate spends on the injury sidelines as a problem, while also that club captain Virgil van Dijk cannot go on forever.

Liverpool look to nail down Amorim appointment

FSG are unlikely to sanction all three deals, however, while Sporting would also try to resist the departures of both centre-halves in the same summer.

However, moves for two of those, in Hjulmand and one of the defenders does appear a possibility, per Jornal Noticias.

Of course, Liverpool’s first priority will be to nail down the appointment of Amorim and after reports earlier this week suggested claims that a three-year deal were premature, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest and has confirmed the Reds are indeed progressing with their plans to land on Amorim.

“Ruben Amorim is the favoured candidate for Liverpool for sure, but we still have to wait and see because Liverpool are discussing this possibility internally, while they have also made contacts with people close to Amorim. This is significant because it’s not something they did with Roberto de Zerbi or some of the other names we’ve seen in the media in recent weeks,” Romano told Caught Offside.

“So, Amorim remains a strong candidate – they are well informed on his contract situation and there will be more discussions over him becoming the new Liverpool manager.

“As previously reported, there is an agreement with Sporting for Amorim to leave for around €10m if a top club comes in for him, even if his formal release clause for clubs outside Portugal is €20m. This could be a boost for Liverpool.”

New Tottenham striker: Fresh talks ‘this week’ with Postecoglou bid for devastating ace already drawn up

0

Gimenez has only been at Feyenoord since July 2022, but he has made a massive impact since then. In his first season with the Dutch side, the centre-forward managed 28 goals in 50 appearances. He looks set to do even better this term, with his record currently standing at 24 goals from 38 matches.

Gimenez’s sensational scoring record has led to significant interest in his services from around Europe. In the Premier League, Tottenham and West Ham United are the main clubs who have been tipped to snare him.

On Sunday, Tottenham ramped up their pursuit of the Argentina-born Mexico international as they look to beat West Ham in the transfer pursuit.

Following a request from manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham officials began negotiations with Feyenoord chiefs to thrash out transfer terms.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport have now weighed in on the situation. They claim that Tottenham will now face new competition for Gimenez, as Napoli have joined the chase for his signature.

Napoli are at growing risk of losing current No 9 Victor Osimhen to Chelsea and have set their sights on Gimenez as a top-quality replacement. AC Milan are keeping tabs on the Eredivisie star, too.

Feyenoord have scheduled a meeting with both the player’s father and his agent for ‘this week’, to discuss where they go from here.

Update on future of Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez

It is likely Gimenez’s camp will push for a big transfer, as they know the 22-year-old’s stock is incredibly high at the moment.

Spurs have indicated that they will definitely be making a bid for Gimenez once Feyenoord make a final decision on his future.

Although, that offer will not arrive just yet. Feyenoord are likely to greenlight an ‘auction’ for Gimenez after the Eredivisie season concludes on May 19.

Former NDC Branch Chairman to contest Ledzokuku seat on CPP ticket

0

Mr Seth Tagoe, a former Christian Preparatory School Branch Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ledzokuku Constituency, has declared his intention to contest the parliamentary seat of the Constituency on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Mr Tagoe, who is also the Chairman of the Teshie Concerned Citizens Association, said he joined the CPP as a card-bearing member last year and cleared to contest the seat.

He said the decision was for him to fasttrack the socioeconomic developmemt of the Constituency.

Mr Tagoe alleged that past Members of Parliament-NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), detached themselves from the people and their concerns after winning the seat and said it was time a transformational leader like himself represented the people in Parliament for rapid development.

The 63-year-old self-employed said he would changed the negative narrative of Teshie in four years and entreated the electorate to vote for him in the December polls.

He said his four-year development plan would focus on fixing water and electricity problems, road and sanitation challenges and enhancing security in the Constituency.

Mr Tagoe said priority would also be given to education, health and job creation.

He said he was instrumental in the construction of the LEKMA Hospital, protection of community lands and construction of access roads in the Constituency and said his aim was to uplift the image of Teshie with an all round development strategy.

The Ledzokuku Constituency is one of the dynamic constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, with more than 142,995 voter population spread across 12 electoral areas.

The areas are Tsuibleoo Central, Akromadeokpo, Akromadeokpo West, Tsuibleoo South, Okosekor, Sutsurunor, Tsuibleoo North, Teshie-Nungua North, Teshie-Nungua South, Agblezaa, Aborle, and Nii Ashietey Akomfra.

The main occupation of the people is fishing.

Though the presidential elections have been dominated by the NDC, no MP has been able to retain their seat since 1996.

The incumbent MP, Benjamin Narteh Ayiku of the NDC, will face a rematch with the former MP and current Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Oko Boye of the NPP, who lost to him by a slim margin in 2020.

Mr Tagoe and other aspirants are likely to make the contest interesting.
