‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman’s ‘suave flare’ remembered by Lupita Nyong’o on anniversary of his death

0

Chadwick Boseman has passed away, but he will not be forgotten.

Monday was three years since the “Black Panther” actor died, and several of his Marvel co-stars paid tribute to him on social media.

Lupita Nyong’o, who co-starred with Boseman in the 2018 film “Black Panther,” shared a black and white portrait of the actor taken in South Korea the same year on Monday.

“Three years ago today, I was overcome with grief with the news of @chadwickboseman’s death.” “The bewilderment was so intense that it took months for me to trust the sensation of joy again,” writes Nyong’o.

She continued, “We had just learned to do the baby heart with our fingers. Here Chadwick was adding his suave flare. We spent a glorious 72 hours there, and the memory fills me with so much joy.”

“Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept,” she added. “But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence.”

Boseman died in August 2020 while at home with his family and wife by his side after battling colon cancer since 2016, according to a statement posted on his Twitter account at the time. He was 43.

The actor had become a global star through inspiring performances in films such as “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Marshall” and “Da 5 Bloods.”

He is most well known for starring as King T’Challa in 2018’s hugely popular “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity Wars” movies, and went on to reprise the role in 2019’s “Avengers: End Game.”

Letitia Wright, who played T’Challa’s sister Shuri in the Marvel franchise, also remembered Boseman on Monday by reposting a 2022 video of him on her Instagram stories, writing “always celebrating you king. Love always.”

Daniel Kaluuya paid tribute to his “Black Panther” co-star as well on Monday, sharing a photo of himself with Boseman and Danai Gurira on his Instagram stories.

As Nyong’o wrote at the end of her post on Monday, “Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts.”

The outcome of the NPP superdelegates summit was not unexpected – Gyampo

0

Professor Ransford Gyampo of the University of Ghana (UG) has stated that the outcome of the New Patriotic Party’s super delegates conference on Saturday, August 26, did not come as a surprise.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, won the New Patriotic Party (NPP) super delegates conference with 629 votes, representing 68.15% of the vote.

Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, finished in second with 132 votes (14.30%), while former Commerce Minister Alan Kyerematen came in third with 95 votes (10.29%).

Speaking on The Point of View on Citi TV, Prof. Gyampo said that a couple of factors, including loyalty, played a prominent role in the results of the super delegates conference.

“We know that Bawumia was going to emerge at the top, and I was actually expecting him to garner about 80% of the votes. Kennedy Agyapong was also going to get a significant number of votes because quite a number of MPs who voted felt that Ken is someone who would easily reward loyalty. They believe that if they support him now, and there is time for them to also contest their elections, he will dole out funds to support them. And should he also become a kingmaker and he is asked to bring up names for an appointment, he will easily point out to those who gave him their loyalty. Apart from that, he is also a grassroots person, and so this placed him in a certain advantage over the others.

“I was not also surprised by the votes that were garnered by Alan Kyerematen. Even though a lot of people were expecting him to be second, he was between second and third. But what I believe was important is the fact that he was looking forward to being named as part of the top five, and he got that.”

We’re dedicated to tackling the issues raised by Saturday’s surveys – Nimako Evans

0

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it is determined to addressing all issues highlighted by aspirants at the party’s super delegates meeting on Saturday.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, one of the party’s flagbearer hopefuls, was caught on tape making a phone conversation in which he threatened the President and Vice President with a “showdown” after learning that his agents had been attacked in the North East Region.

Several problems were raised in certain centres around the nation, including charges by Alan Kyerematen’s team that the Vice President’s team was supplying delegates in the Greater Accra region with lavish accommodations in an attempt to purchase votes.

But speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, the director of elections and research of the NPP, Evans Nimako, described the polls as largely successful due to the party’s extensive dialogue prior to the conference.

He told Umaru Sanda Amadu that the party met on Monday to deliberate over the issues that arose from the conference and pledged that all parties would be heard and all issues addressed amicably.

“What we went through on Saturday was successful because the Elections Committee equally engaged the aspirants. The party also met today and we are extending invitations to all the candidates so that we can have the issues that came up resolved.

“The committee is not in a hurry to pass judgment but we are ready to listen to all sides and record their concerns and act according to the party’s constitution. We have always engaged and we have extended invitations to all those with concerns before we submit our final report to the party.”

President Akufo-Addo swears in two High court judges

0

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday inducted into office two new High Court Judges, charging them to apply the laws fairly, strictly and without fear, favour or ill-will.

He said the growth of the country demanded that the Judiciary commanded the respect of the people by the quality of the delivery of justice and by the comportment of judges.

The new judges are Justices Dorothy Ayodele Kingsly-Nyinah and Ama Sefenya Ayittey.

At a ceremony at the Jubilee House, Accra, at which the President administered the oaths of allegiance and secrecy, as well the judicial oath, he congratulated them on their appointment.

He urged them to distinguish themselves in their work by exhibiting honesty, integrity and sound knowledge of the law.

The President described as unacceptable “the situation where Judges proffered judgments on the basis of decisions from lower courts and cite them as law and even less so when Judges cite no authority at all for their rulings and give order without reasons.”

They should know their case law and ensure that their decisions and judgments were motivated correctly.

President Akufo-Addo implored the judges to ensure that they adjudicate cases with fear or favour, ill will or affection, and they must at all material times, protect the fundamental rights of the citizens.

He also charged them to be sensitive to undue delays that projected the image of Ghana as a destination where litigation took too long, stressing that “This affects the attractiveness of the country as an investment destination.”

The President asked the judges to harness the power of technology to advance the rule of law to maintain the confidence of Ghanaians and shore up the nation’s reputation as a country governed in accordance with the rule of law.

“We know that harnessing the power of technology to advance the rule of law is critical in this modern era, if we are to maintain the confidence of the Ghanaian people and shore-up our nations reputation as a country governed by the rule of law.

“I encourage both of you to take full advantage of the E-justice system in order to expedite the conduct of cases that comes before you and enhance the management of cases before the court,” he said.

Justice Kingsly-Nyinah thanked the President for the confidence reposed in her and her colleague.

She pledged that they would carry out their duties in accordance with the constitution and all other laws, and that justice would be perceived to be done equitably.

Protests in Libya following FM meetings with Israeli counterpart

0

Many protesters came to the streets of Tripoli, Libya’s capital, after foreign minister Najla al-Mangoush was suspended when it was revealed that she had met with her Israeli counterpart last week in Rome.

Ms. Mangoush has been submitted to an administrative investigation by a panel led by the Minister of Justice, according to a statement issued by Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah’s cabinet on Sunday evening.

The Foreign ministry described the meeting as an unofficial and fortuitous encounter that did not involve any discussion, agreement, or consultation, adding, that Mrs. Mangoush had refused to hold talks with any party representing the Israeli entity and reiterated in a clear and unambiguous manner Libya’s position regarding the Palestinian cause.

The Libyan ministry also denounced the exploitation by the Israeli and international media of this incident, which they are trying to present as a meeting or talks.

According to reports, in January 2022, Mossad Director David Barnea and Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah met in Jordan to discuss normalization and security cooperation.

Although the meeting was publicized by the Saudi and Libyan media, Dbeibah subsequently denied its existence.

Libya, plunged into chaos since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011, is known to have no diplomatic relations with Israel.

Lionel Messi’s immediate effect at Inter Miami impresses Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni.

0

Lionel Messi is “already amazing” for Inter Miami, according to Lionel Scaloni, with the Argentine having an immediate impression in the US.

Nobody doubted that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner could have such an impact on the American game, but even by his lofty standards, a magnificent start to a new chapter in his illustrious career has been enjoyed.

Scaloni, who led Argentina to World Cup glory at Qatar 2022, has told the AFA’s official media: “Messi is fine, I see him happy, I see him joyful, and that’s a good thing. In the end, what he needs is to be well, to be in a comfortable place, for him and his family to feel happy, and with his team-mates as well. So that’s what is noticeable, happy and enjoying football, which in the end is where he feels happy, inside a pitch. His presence is already incredible and both his team-mates and opponents generate something special. Then, in addition to the game, he will bring to the league and to the whole country something essential, which is that everyone wants to watch him. His presence is already too much and I think he is still more than qualified to keep playing football.”

‘Speak the truth,’ says Luis Rubiales’ mother, who goes on hunger strike outside a church in protest of her son’s ‘cruel’ treatment.

0

Angeles Bejar, the mother of Spanish Football Association president Luis Rubiales, has gone on hunger strike and urged Jenni Hermoso to “speak the truth.”

With his conduct during the 2023 Women’s World Cup final, Rubiales has garnered unwanted headlines and found himself at the centre of a sporting and political tempest.

Rubiales grabbed the triumphant players and kissed Barcelona striker Hermoso on the lips after Spain’s 1-0 victory against England.

He has endured a barrage of criticism in the aftermath of an eventful medal ceremony in Sydney, but he has pledged not to resign from his prominent position despite rising pressure.

Several leading stars in Spain have vowed not to represent their national team again until Rubiales is removed from power – with FIFA having stepped in to suspend him from all football-related activity.

Bejar has been left distraught at seeing her son become the subject of a “cruel” saga.

She has reiterated Rubiales’ claims that there was “consent on both sides” regarding a now infamous kiss, with Hermoso urged to “tell the truth” and “maintain the version she had at the beginning of events” – with the 33-year-old having initially shrugged off the incident.

Bejar has now taken her protest to the Divina Pastora de Motril church and vowed to EFE that she will remain on hunger strike “indefinitely, day and night” until justice is done in her eyes.

She has said that “what they are doing with my son is something that he does not deserve”.

Bejar claims that Rubiales is “incapable of harming anyone” and is hoping to see his name cleared in an unfortunate saga.
