Mr George Adane, the President Nominee has been confirmed as the Jaman North District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Bono Region.
In an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission at Sampa, the District capital, Mr Adane received 100 per cent approval from the 39-member Assembly.
The DCE thanked the Assembly Members for his overwhelming endorsement and stressed his readiness to embrace everybody in the development process of the district.
Mr Adane said effective collaboration was required from all stakeholders to improve access to education and healthcare services, pledging to do more to create job opportunities for the youth in the area.
He stated that responsive leadership and inclusivity would help bring the development of the district to the next level, stressing the need to promote entrepreneurship for rapid economic growth and development.
Mr Adane advised the people to bury their differences and contribute to deepening security and public safety for a strengthened peace and social cohesion.
Justice Gabriel Martey-Teye, a High Court Judge in Sunyani, later took the DCE through the oaths of office, allegiance, and secrecy.

Dodzi Addison Mornyuie confirmed as Central Tongu District Chief Executive
The Central Tongu District Assembly has confirmed Mr. Dodzi Addison Mornyuie as its new District Chief Executive (DCE) with an impressive 95 per cent vote, garnering 38 out of 40 votes.
The confirmation exercise was a testament to the confidence of the Assembly members in Mr. Mornyuie’s leadership abilities.
Mr. Mornyuie, in his acceptance speech, pledged to focus on key areas that would drive development in the district.
He emphasized the importance of promoting agriculture, youth empowerment, health, and education.
He also committed to working with all stakeholders to develop Central Tongu and urged traditional authorities, assembly members, and residents to support his initiatives.
Mr. Mornyuie stated that his vision for the district is centred on improving the lives of the people of Central Tongu.
He pledged to be accountable to the residents and ensure transparency in his work, emphasizing the need for collaboration and support from all stakeholders to achieve his development goals.
Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, lauded Mr. Mornyuie’s endorsement, and hoped that Mr. Mornyuie would work to promote development in the district.
He called on all and sundry to support Mr. Mornyuie in the discharge of his work.
“We are confident that Mr. Mornyuie will work tirelessly to promote the development of Central Tongu,” Mr. Gunu said. “We urge all stakeholders to support him in his new role and work together to achieve our development goals.”
Some members of the National Democratic Congress disclosed to the Ghana News Agency that Mr. Mornyuie’s confirmation as the Central Tongu DCE would bring renewed energy and optimism to the Assembly.
“His appointment is a testament to his leadership abilities and his commitment to serving the people of Central Tongu,” they added.
The Central Tongu District Assembly is now set to embark on a new chapter of development under the leadership of Mr. Mornyuie with his vision and commitment to accountability to make significant progress in the years ahead.
Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe Confirmed as DCE for North Tongu
The North Tongu District Assembly has confirmed Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe as its new District Chief Executive (DCE) with an overwhelming majority vote.
Out of 42 Assembly members, 41 voted in favour of her nomination, while only 1 member dissented.
The confirmation exercise, which was attended by the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, saw Madam Doe secure the required two-thirds majority, demonstrating the confidence of the Assembly in her leadership abilities.
In her acceptance speech, Madam Doe pledged to work towards the promotion of developmental initiatives and represent the interests of the people of North Tongu.
She expressed gratitude to the President for the honor of being nominated and to the Assembly members for their overwhelming support.
Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, congratulated Madam Doe on her confirmation and urged her to work hard to promote the development of the district and emphasized the importance of collaboration and support from all stakeholders in ensuring the success of the Assembly.
With her confirmation, Madam Doe becomes the new DCE for North Tongu, tasked with the responsibility of driving progress and development in the district.
Some residents told the Ghana News Agency that her endorsement is expected to bring renewed energy and optimism to the Assembly, as she embarks on works to improve the lives of the people of North Tongu.
Women’s Group urges President Mahama to halt Chief Justice’s removal process
A Concerned Women’s Advocacy Group in the Central Region has urged President John Dramani Mahama and the Council of State to immediately halt all actions aimed at removing Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
While emphasising their respect for the democratic processes outlined in the 1992 Constitution, the group clarified that they did not oppose to any citizen’s right to pursue lawful procedures.
However, they stressed that such actions must align with constitutional principles and broader national interests, stressing that “such efforts might be motivated by narrow, self-serving interests rather than the public good.”
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Miss Vivian Gassor, Spokesperson for the Group said: “We are calling on all Ghanaians to join in our call to halt this process which is definitely not in the interest of Mother Ghana and shall render us polarized and divided however it ends.”
They rallied all women and women groups to stand up to be counted in the face of what the Group described as a “creeping cloud of darkness ostensibly intended to engulf the progress made thus far.”
“We hereby also, in all humility and in a special way, call on the Council of State, as the nation’s special and unique class of persons who have seen and lived it all, with very rich individual life experiences, and also with good sense of the history of our dear country to see through the lines, and without any hesitation, unequivocally step in to prevent this removal process as not one that will heal and unite mother Ghana.”
Miss Gassor highlighted the nation’s ongoing challenges in advancing women’s empowerment, particularly in leadership roles within the public sphere.
She celebrated the historic milestone of electing a woman to the second-highest office in the country, describing it as a significant step forward in the struggle for gender equality and inclusion in governance.
She noted that while progress had been made, there was still room for improvement, and they remained optimistic about achieving greater representation of women in decision-making positions.
She emphasised that inclusive societies developed more rapidly by harnessing the talents of all citizens and warned that such actions could undermine national unity and derail progress made under the current administration.
Stressing the importance of collaboration across political and social divides, she urged all stakeholders to prioritize national development and avoid actions that could reverse hard-won gains.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Torkonoo has submitted her response to petitions filed by three individuals on February 14 and March 17, 2025, asking for her removal from office in accordance with 10 days given for her to submit her response expired on Monday, April 7, 2025.
The presidency announced that it had received and forwarded to the Council of State for consultation three petitions, which were all asking for the removal of Justice Torkornoo from office.
The presidency, in a press statement, explained that the move by President Mahama was in line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
Article 146 governs the processes for the removal of Justices of the Superior Courts, the Chief Justice, and persons whose offices are analogous with Justices of the Superior Courts such as the Chairperson and Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission (EC) and Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
Former NPP PC urges Assembly members to confirm Kadjebi DCE nominee
Mr. Tassah Tapha Tassah, the Akan New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for election 2024, has entreated Assembly members of the Kadjebi District to unanimously approve Dr. Sam Suraj Issaka’s nomination, as the Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE).
He said they needed to “put aside partisan consideration and unanimously approved the President’s nominee for the DCE post”.
Mr. Tassah, who is an Accra-based Private Legal Practitioner made the appeal via the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the impending confirmation of Dr. Suraj on Wednesday, April 9 in Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
He said Dr. Suraj’s approval would bring development they have all been yearning for and the district should be paramount to everyone, and not parochial interests.
Kadjebi District Assembly members consist of 36 elected and 16 government appointees.
Dr. Sam Suraj Issaka is a Research Scientist with the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission and is also the Oti Regional Director of Research and Innovation for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He is also a former Assemblyman for the Mempeasem Electoral Area for two consecutive terms.
Czech President arrives in Accra for a three-day State visit
President Petr Pavel of the Czech Republic on Tuesday afternoon arrived at the Kotoka International Airport for a three-day State visit to Ghana.
He was received on arrival at the Airport on behalf of President by Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency.
Other senior Government officials at the airport to receive President Pavel include Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Minister, Mr Prosper D. K. Bani, the National Security Advisor, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, the Senior Legal Advisor to the President and Mr Alex Segbefia, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President.
President Pavel’s visit to Ghana would be the first State visit hosted by President Mahama since his return to the Presidency on January 7, 2025.
While in Ghana, President Pavel would hold bilateral talks with President Mahama, address a business forum, inaugurate a Czech-funded health facility and visit the Osu Castle and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
President Mahama would host a State Dinner in honour of the visiting Head of State.

Agona West MCE nominee grateful to President Mahama
Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Nominee, has expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his appointment to the highest office in the Municipality.
He stated that the opportunity offered him to serve in his government as MCE, was a stepping stone for him to contribute to the reset agenda of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party to vigorously pursue infrastructural and human transformation.
In a media interview at Agona Swedru after the announcement of his nomination, Mr Odoom who is also the Agona West Constituency Secretary of the NDC, said his nomination would serve as greatest motivation to all executives of the party.
The Nominee further extended gratitude to Mrs Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, for her unwavering support for him during the contest, and promised to work extra hard for the party to retain the seat in 2028.
The MCE nominee, said the vision for his political career was made clear when he started working for the party in 2007, adding that the hard work had earned him the position of an MCE.
Mr Odoom thanked the constituency executives, ward coordinators and branch executives and his church members for their unflinching support, adding that although the race was not an easy one, their prayers caused him to sail through it.
Mr Odoom also expressed appreciation to the Omanhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, Nana Kweku Esieni V, the Regent of Agona Swedru and all the Chiefs of the Traditional Council for their support and advice that had yielded positive results.
On Youth Development, the nominee assured that the President Mahama’s reset agenda would be executed to create enabling environment for the teeming youth to acquire entrepreneurial skills for job creation to enable them to earn better living.
He urged the youth to distance themselves from immorality and drug abuse and pursue education aggressively to build themselves up for a better future.
The nominee, who is the head teacher of the Swedru A. M. E Zion (E) Basic School, pledged to work with chiefs, religious leaders and other stakeholders to reduce the menace of child delinquency which was high in the Agona West Municipality.
On confirmation of his nomination, Mr Odoom said he was optimistic that he would be confirmed because of his good relationship with the Assembly Members who were agents of change and development would rally solidly behind him to ensure that the Municipality became a better place.
Mr Odoom urged the Members to collaborate and work as a team to rake in more revenue, especially payment of property rates and other untapped revenue sources to help undertake developmental projects, including reshaping of feeder roads in the area to assist farmers and market women to bring their produce to market centres.
Adolescent girls in South Tongu benefit from capacity-building training on SRHR and SGBV
A group of adolescent girls across the South Tongu District in the Volta Region have undergone capacity-building training aimed at equipping them with Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV).
The project, titled “Youth Empowered to Thrive,” is being implemented by Developers Net with support from Plan International Ghana and was held at St. Catherine Senior High School at Agbakofe on Monday.
The training brought together 31 club leaders and their patrons from five communities, such as, Larve, Agbogbla, Agbakope, Hikpo, and Atsieve.
The participants were taken through thematic areas, including Leadership and Team Building, Adolescent Rights and Advocacy, Gender-Based Violence, and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights. These club leaders are expected to utilise the knowledge acquired by impacting their various club members in the communities and schools.
The overall objective of the training was to empower the participants to become agents of change within their communities by increasing their awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
The training forms part of the organisation’s long-term programmes for the year.
Madam Deborah Dzimabi, a club patron from Hikpo, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the initiative had already begun making significant impact in the lives of the girls.
“Our young ones, especially the girls, are vulnerable to many forms of abuse, but the intervention from Developers Net has made a noticeable difference within a short time. We are hopeful that by the end of the project, many young boys and girls will be transformed and serve as positive role models,” she remarked.
During the training, Madam Glory Afeti, Project lead at Developers Net, educated participants on their fundamental rights, such as the right to free and compulsory basic education, protection against child labour and physical abuse, and the right to privacy, and how to advocate for these rights using appropriate state institutions.
“As young people, you are entitled to free compulsory basic education. You must not be subjected to any form of labour that endangers your physical or mental health. When you experience abuse, speak to your peer educators, teachers, or parents who can direct you to the right institutions for support,” Ms Glory advised.
Mr. Yonna Keleku, Founder of Developers Net, encouraged the girls to prioritise their adolescent rights and provided further guidance on how to advocate for themselves in both school and community settings through the TeleYcare service.
He also hinted at how they intend to eradicate issues of abuse and teenage pregnancy among young girls in the area. “The aim is to empower the young adolescent to be able to take up responsibilities that will make them prioritise their safety and advocate for their rights.
Issues of adolescent sexual and gender-based abuses and its related matters have been a trending issue in the area over the period, a situation that necessitated the initiative from the organisations.
According to records by the Ghana Health Service, the South Tongu District witnessed a surge in teenage pregnancy cases within the first quarter of 2024. The period recorded a 15.6% rate of teenage pregnancy, as against the 12% and 13.5% in the entire of 2022 and 2023 respectively.
The United Nations commemorates the anniversary of genocide in Rwanda.
On Monday, the United Nations commemorated the 31st International Day of Reflection on Rwanda’s 1994 genocide.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres addressed the remembrance ceremony at the United Nations General Assembly, saying Rwanda’s past tells us that “no society is immune from hate and horror.”
Guterres also urged all nations to join the Genocide Convention immediately and safeguard their citizens against genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.
Robert Kayinamura, Rwanda’s U.N. ambassador said the phrase ‘never again’ must go beyond symbolism. “It must guide our policies, actions, and be a litmus test to our collective morality and responsibility.”
This year’s event is overshadowed by the ongoing crisis in the eastern DR Congo, where the Rwanda-backed M23 militia has gone on a rampage against the authorities, seizing two major towns of Bukavu and Goma.
Locally known as ‘Kwibuka’, meaning Remembrance Day in Kinyarwanda, this year’s event marked the 100th anniversary since the eastern African country began commemorating the day in 1994.
