Some 16,369 children receive Polio vaccination during the second phase at Keta.

A total number of 16,369 children between the aged of zero to 59 months have received polio vaccination in the Keta municipality of the Volta Region during the second phase of the polio vaccination exercise. 


The national polio programme was to help eliminate polio disease and prevent any sudden paralysis or limb weakness among children in the country. 


Madam Dora Kugbonu, the Public Health Promotion Officer at the Keta Health Directorate, disclosed to the Ghana News Agency in an interview that a total number of 16,369 children, which represented more than 100 percent, were vaccinated against polio in the municipality from Thursday, November 21 to Sunday, November 24. 


“We targeted to administer the polio vaccine to 14,730 children but with the hardworks and dedication of our health workers and volunteers, we were able to exceed the target by an additional 1,639, and I think this is a commendable and remarkable performance,” she said. 


She also stated that the new number of the second phase of the vaccination represented 105.4 percent as compared to 14,790, which represented 104 percent of the first phase, which was held in October 17 to 20, this year. 


Madam Kugbonu said that the second phase of the polio vaccination was the last for the year and commended health workers, volunteers, parents, teachers, and the public for the collaborative efforts and dedication for a successful and smooth exercise. 


“Our studies and statistics have identified that a total number of 37 children between the ages of 12 to 59 months have been able to receive the polio vaccination for the first time, whilst children below 12 months have all participated earlier.”. 


She said that all children who received the dosage in the first phase were also made to receive the vaccine during the second phase to strengthen their immune system against polio disease to prevent any spread. 
Madam Kugbonu appealed to the public, especially parents, to always attend community health programmes such as weighing of children and visit the nearest health centres regularly whenever they identify any strange behaviours in children. 


She explained to GNA that polio was dangerous and has no cure while vaccination was the only approved method to stop it, and the public should always help in vaccinating children again with polio and any other communicable diseases to prevent sudden sickness or unforeseen death. 


She charged the public to always practice good personal hygiene to drive away other diseases, which include diarrhoea, malaria, among others. 


Some parents GNA engaged after the vaccination exercise expressed satisfaction and thanked the government and Keta Health Directorate for the good initiatives to prevent polio and other diseases. 


They pledged to participate fully in any other subsequent exercise to safeguard the lives of young children. 

Ghana’s economy has recovered strongly – Amin Adam.

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has declared that the country’s economy has fully recovered from its recent challenges.

According to Dr. Amin Adam, Ghana surpassed its 2023 economic growth target of 2.8% and has continued to make significant progress in 2024.

Speaking at a rally in Saboba in the Northern Region, the Finance Minister expressed optimism about the country’s economic trajectory, stating that Ghana is firmly on the path to sustained growth.

“Ghana’s economy has come back to life following the difficulties we faced in the last three years. Macroeconomic stability is fast returning to our country. We all can see the indicators improving by the day.

“And now we want to focus on growth, economic growth, which has also already demonstrated that the economy has recovered strongly. Last year, we were supposed to grow at 1.5 percent, but we grew at 2.9 percent. Half this year, we were supposed to grow at 3.1 percent, but we grew at 5.8 percent.”

Ministry of National Security refutes allegations of involvement in alleged abduction of Emirates Manager.

The Ministry of National Security has disputed allegations published by the Herald Newspaper that officers from the Ministry and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) were involved in the alleged abduction of Sylvia Baah, the Airport Services Manager for Emirates Airlines at Kotoka International Airport.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 25, 2024, the Ministry described the claims as baseless and categorically denied the involvement of its personnel. 

“The Ministry wishes to categorically state that no officer from the Ministry or the National Intelligence Bureau was involved in the alleged abduction of Sylvia Baah,” the statement read. 

The Ministry also announced the commencement of investigations into the incident to uncover the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction. 

“The Ministry has initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction. The Ministry further wishes to assure the public that culprits of the alleged abduction will be made to face the full rigours of the law following the conclusion of the investigations.” 

The Ministry called on the public to disregard the claims by the Herald Newspaper and urged that the report be treated with scepticism.  

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service confirmed on November 22 that an investigation had been launched after Baah was allegedly abducted at the entrance of her residence in Accra on November 21. Two days later, on November 23, the police announced that the victim had been successfully rescued and reunited with her family. 

The police assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the crime, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring justice.

Aggrieved customers of Menzgold demand GH₵200m compensation from President Akufo-Addo.

The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of defunct gold dealership company MENZGOLD demanding a 200 million cedis bailout from President Akufo-Addo, and the Minister of Finance to help save members of the group from further deaths.

According to a Statement issued by the Convener and PRO of the group Fred Forson, about 230 customers have lost their lives in the struggle to reclaim their lost investments from MENZGOLD since 2020, when they first made the call for a bailout. The customers claim that the assurance with their demand is that all seized assets of MENZGOLD can serve as a form of guarantee.

The statement notes that the customers are fully aware of the criminal case at the Accra High Court and have cooperated with the Office of the Attorney General. They are of the opinion that government could retrieve the money later after the determination of the case at the High Court. The group, wants the President and Minister of Finance to respond to their request, by close of today Monday November 25.

The Aggrieved Customers have threatened to vote out the NPP if their demand is not met. Meanwhile, the CEO of defunct Menzgold Nana Appiah Mensah also known as NAM1, is currently appealing the trial court’s dismissal of his Submission of No Case and has subsequently filed a Stay of Proceedings at the High Court.

On July 11, 2024, the trial Court dismissed his Submission of No Case and ordered him to open his defence to charges against him. NAM1 and his lawyer Kwame Akufo filed a Submission of No Case when the state closed its case after calling nine witnesses including a police investigator. They contended that the prosecution failed to prove the guilt of NAM1, MENZGOLD, and Brew Marketing Consult.

The Court however, affirmed the prosecution’s case against NAM1 and his companies. In a 110-page ruling, Justice Owusu-Dapaa held that the state has established compelling evidence against him that warrants that he mounts his defence. At the last adjourned date, Lawyer Kwame Akuffo told the Court that he had filed a supplementary affidavit to the Motion to Stay Proceedings, but the prosecution was yet to be served which prompted an adjournment of the trial to Tuesday November 26, 2024.

Ghana football can be reshaped with hard work—Abedi Pele.

Ghana football legend, Abedi Pele has voiced his concerns about the state of football in the country.

The three times Africa Footballer of The Year concerns come following Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament after finishing at the bottom of Group F with three points without a win.

With local football struggling to get the needed attention, Pele, who won the 1982 AFCON tournament with the Black Stars says that the generations gone by cannot be compared to the current state.

He stressed that it is about time the country work hard to put its house to help reshape football in the country.

“I think time changes in all and this, we are talking about three decades,” Pele told the media as reported by Panafricafootball.

“So whatever it is, we shouldn’t look back, we should just look forward and work hard and achieve whatever we want to achieve. What it takes to be a great football team or a great football nation is to work hard and put your house into order to make sure that you get results and that is all that it takes to be a good team all over the world.

“Football is one of the keys to ensure that the teams and the country are united,” he added.

“Don’t allow yourself to be used as tools for violence,” youth told.

Ghana’s youth have been called upon to remain steadfast for peace and not to allow themselves to be used as tools to cause violence as the nation prepares for the upcoming general election. 


They have been urged to see themselves as “the heart of the nation’s future” and to, therefore, engage in actions that would build a stronger Ghana by eschewing violence before, during and after the 2024 general election. 


The call was made during a peace campaign. 


Stakeholders and youth groups participated in the peace campaign signed a peace pact to affirm their commitment to always maintaining peace, especially during this electioneering. 


Mrs. Vida Addi, the Upper West Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), made the call in Wa at the weekend during a Youth Peace Walk towards promoting peace during the election and beyond. 


Hundreds of youths from youth groups and youth movements in the region participated in the walk through the streets of Wa to propagate the urgent need for the youth to uphold the nation’s peace in the critical period of the election. 


“While politicians will naturally bring differences in opinion, let those differences be expressed through constructive debates and issue-based campaigns, not insults or attacks. 


“We must collectively reject acrimony and violence, for these are not the values that build a united and prosperous society,” Mrs. Addi advised the youth. 


She encouraged the people to uphold the principles of the peace pact to help promote peaceful coexistence in their communities. 


Mrs. Addi also encouraged the youth to be ambassadors of peace saying, “Maintaining peace is a shared responsibility and together we can ensure a violence-free election.” 


Representatives of the various youth groups and youth movements at the event took turns to address the participants, expressing their commitment to peace. 


Mr. Imoro Rashid of the Zongo Youth Alliance said many people held the perception that Zongo youth were “troublemakers” and that birthed the “Zongo Youth Alliance” comprising youth from different political parties to preach peace and to change that perception among the people. 


“There cannot be anything greater than peace, because we the youth are growing up and peace is what we need to be able to achieve our goals and aspirations,” he observed. 


Mr. Rashid, therefore, appealed to the youth to embrace peace wherever they found themselves, especially as the 2024 election approached to ensure peace prevailed during the election period and beyond. 

Police arrest 26 persons for toy gun-related offences.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 26 individuals for toy gun-related crimes.

The suspects are currently assisting with investigations and will be brought before court to face justice.

In a statement, the police mentioned that a quantity of toy guns had been retrieved from the suspects as part of the investigation into this issue.

Nationwide police operations are ongoing to apprehend others involved in this growing trend, which has been emerging in certain parts of the country

“We would like to once again assure the public that the Police will do all that it takes for our beloved country to continue to be at peace with herself.”

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says the time has come for Ghanaians to unite and ‘reset’ Ghana from its current economic challenges and bring relief to the citizenry.

He attributed the economic situation to the mismanagement of the economy by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration and said the problem needed a fresh start with a new vision to restore hope to the people.

He said this when he met the clergy at Effia in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality as part of his three-day campaign tour of the Western Region.

Former President Mahama said: “Ghana is at the crossroads, and on December 7, we have the opportunity to elect a leader who will take the country forward or backward, and if you look at how things have gone this past eight years, we need to bring the NDC back to reset the country to its previous state.”

According to him, despite some challenges during his time as president, his administration performed better in all sectors of the economy than the NPP government.

He stated that in 2016, Ghana’s debt-to-GDP ratio was 57 per cent, and the deficit was 6.1 per cent, with the government financing its programmes and policies without borrowing from the Central Bank.

“When you look at all the steps we put in place before we left government, there has been criminal supervision and destruction of the economy, which should not have happened.

“So, what we are saying is that we need to rescue this country and reset it to its glory days. We need a fresh start and so December 7 presents us with this opportunity,” the former president added.

Bishop Emmanuel Botwey, General Overseer of the Christian Faith Church International, urged former President Mahama to stay true to his vision and ensure he delivered on all his promises to bring socio-economic prosperity to Ghanaians.

Prayers were said for the NDC flagbearer and his entourage for God to grant them success in their campaign activities.

Ghana defender Alidu Seidu ruled out for the season after ACL injury.

Ghana defender Alidu has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a serious injury during his side’s Ligue 1 match against Lille on Sunday.

The Ghanaian international was forced off the pitch just 17 minutes into the game after landing awkwardly, resulting in a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

Despite receiving immediate treatment, Seidu was unable to continue and was replaced by Mikayil Faye. He was later seen on crutches, signalling the severity of the injury.

Seidu will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair the torn ACL, with the operation expected to rule him out for the rest of the season. A scan conducted after the match confirmed the extent of the damage.

Stade Rennais manager Jorge Sampaoli had acknowledged the injury’s seriousness, stating, “I can’t diagnose; we will do tests tomorrow.” And test confirmed he will not be able to play again this season.

Seidu’s absence is a significant blow for the club, where he had become a key figure since joining in January 2024. He had been in solid form, earning the September Player of the Month award and featuring in 11 matches this season.
