Ten Hag sack: Man Utd axe furiously talk heats up as Liverpool legend stirs pot after Coventry, FA Cup debacle

It is now just a question of when Erik ten Hag will be sacked by Manchester United in the wake of Sunday’s embarrassing FA Cup semi-final against Coventry that saw the Premier League giants come within a whisker of being dumped out.

The Red Devils looked home and hosed when Bruno Fernandes scored early in the second half to add to first-half goals by Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire and put Manchester United into a commanding 3-0 lead. However, the Championship outfit are made of stern stuff and mounted an incredible late comeback to make it 3-3 and take the game into extra-time.

The Sky Blues, FA Cup winners in 1987, then came within a whisker of winning it when a last-gasp strike by Victor Torp was ruled out by the narrowest of offside margins, allowing United to then go on and beat Coventry 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

However, the performance in allowing Coventry to come back from such a big margin has done little for Ten Hag’s reputation and his chances of retaining the United hotseat for the long-term.

The Dutchman has been under serious pressure for weeks, with our exclusive being the first to break the news that many inside Old Trafford believe Ten Hag is already a deadman walking. And amid claims that some of his players have stopped playing for him, that certainly played out before our eyes at Wembley on Sunday.

And with both Roy Keane and Ian Wright among those tearing into United for their woeful surrender, a Liverpool legend has now stirred the pot, suggesting it is now only a matter of time before the axe falls at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag sack: Man Utd players left embarrassed

Indeed, Jamie Carragher feels the United collapse was so bad that that performance alone will be enough to cost Ten Hag his job.

And reflecting on how Coventry boss Mark Robins once scored a goal to keep Sir Alex Ferguson in the United hotseat, Jamie Carragher now thinks the sands of time are running out for Ten Hag.

“We were watching at the end there and Mark Robins famously kept a Man United manager in a job, I think that result today has just cost a Man United manager his job. I don’t see how he stays, I don’t,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“It’s just performance after performance and that is just like (gestures). I would imagine that dressing room is probably the most embarrassed dressing room you could probably remember of a team who has won a big game.

“Can you imagine that dressing room when you go in they’re all sat there looking each other, they don’t know whether to celebrate, is it a big thing that you’re in a cup final and got through? They’re probably all just sat there looking at each other.”

Ten Hag is now through to a second successive FA Cup final and will lead United out for a fifth time at Wembley since his appointment.

However, with some supporters even calling for minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe to wield the axe now, before the FA Cup final against Manchester City takes place on May 25, the debacle appears to have only raised more questions over the Dutchman’s ability to lead United for the long term.

Roy Keane also believes Man Utd will sack Ten Hag

United legend Roy Keane agreed with that view that Ten Hag will likely be on his way come the season’s end.

“Manchester United play in moments, they always give you chances. We’ve seen it already in the FA Cup this season with the games against Wigan and Newport County. Maguire said he saw character but I don’t see character,” he told ITV Sport.

“I’m almost getting to the point where I don’t like them. I’m seeing bad habits. The goalkeeper is wasting time at 2-0 up, get on with the game and go and flex your muscles. They’ll be celebrating getting to a cup final tonight but all this does is put more pressure on the manager.”

Ten Hag himself also admitted the manner of their victory was unacceptable, but did praise his players for showing the steel to win the penalty shootout.

Nottingham Forest refereeing consultant Mark Clattenburg has hit back at Gary Neville after the Sky Sports pundit told him to resign in the wake of the “embarrassing” statement put out by the club following their frustrating 2-0 defeat at Everton on Sunday.

The Toffees hosted the Tricky Trees in a huge relegation tussle at Goodison Park on Sunday, with long-distant goals in either half from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil proving decisive and handing Sean Dyche’s side a very-welcome three points in their battle to beat the drop. The flip side of that loss, however, means that Nottingham Forest are now just a point from safety ahead of Luton in 18th place and with just four games left to preserve their Premier League status.

However, the match on Merseyside was not without controversy, after Forest fell on the wrong side of three contentious penalty decisions And while the incidents were all waved away by referee Anthony Taylor, a statement from the club on X, formerly Twitter, after the game, appeared to direct their anger at VAR official Stuart Atwell, whom they have accused of “being a Luton Town fan”.

The statement read: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept.

“We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options.”

The statement, however, has caused widespread disbelief and condemnation in the game, with many suggesting the Forest statement is an embarrassment.

One of those left shellshocked by their words was Sky Sports pundit Neville, who feels the comments do not reflect well at all.

And with Clattenburg believed to have heavily influenced the statement, Neville made his feelings clear.

“Mark Clattenberg must resign tonight,” Neville told Sky Sports. “If he saw those words go out in which question the integrity of a referee and claims someone is a cheat for supporting another club, then he’s supporting what is being said. He would lose all credibility with referees in the game. He should stand down tonight and distance himself from that statement.

“The statement is like a petulant child. It’s embarrassing. But they’re grabbing defeat from victory. They could say, ‘why should we sit here and be badly done to and not say anything’. You can potentially come out at the end of the game – and the manager is a great spokesman at the end of the game, so is your captain – and say that we’re not accepting the quality of decisions that are going against us, and that would have a real impact.

“You could if you wanted, and I’m not a fan, but written statements from the club when it comes to talking about referees, I don’t believe that’s a line you should cross. I think managers can say, ‘that’s a shocker today, a disgraceful decision’. You’d get a bit of a fine and the club might cover it for you because you do a deal with the chairman to defend yourselves and put a marker down. All of those things have happened in the past.

“Today and over the last few weeks, the way Nottingham Forest are behaving lacks class and that’s a class club. When I was growing up, they acted in a way where you felt like values and principles were really at the forefront of everything they did through the manager they had at the time.

Forest statement labelled ‘horrendous’

Neville continued: “Today has been a horrendous day for Nottingham Forest. Possibly horrendous because of the decisions that they’ve had, but horrendous for how they’ve reacted to the situation. To mention the VAR official as being a Luton fan and inferring in some way that’s had an impact on the decision-making process and suggesting to me as a fan, thinking ‘has he cheated us’, you’re into really dangerous territory.

“And when they say ‘explore all options’, I had a problem with Liverpool saying that after the offside at Tottenham – what do you mean by that?

“It’s become a theme moving forward that clubs now think they can ‘explore options’. What are they going to do, sue? Replay the game? Ask for points back? That’s never going to happen.

“Unless you can prove somehow there’s been absolute wrongdoing, which there won’t be in that sense, it’s just a nonsense.

“I’m disappointed for Nottingham Forest’s players and fans, but I’m also disappointed in Nottingham Forest for the way in which they’ve acted. It’s a horrendous tweet they’ve put out there and they’ll regret that as a football club.

“Someone is driving this cultural behaviour in the way in which they’re handling these poor decisions and it’s not the right way to do it.”

Clattenburg hits back and defends Forest statement

Clattenburg, however, has since done an interview with the Daily Mail and believes someone needs to be held accountable over what he feels were three hugely controversial decisions.

Branding the decisions a “joke”, he hit back in a strongly-worded response

“One of these errors would have been bad enough. Three was a joke, and that is why Nottingham Forest were left feeling victimised after another defeat in which zero big decisions went their way,” he began.

He added: “These situations were precisely why video technology was brought into the Premier League and yet, Attwell did not send Taylor to his monitor. Not once. It was a hat-trick of howlers from the refereeing team and, unfortunately for Forest, a continuation of an unjust trend that has hampered their survival fight.”

Western Nzema Youth League eulogises late Jomoro MP

The Western Nzema Youth League (WNYL) has paid glowing tributes to the late Mr John Emmanuel Ackah, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro Constituency, in the Western Region for his contribution to development of the area.

A statement signed by Dr Patrick Ekye Kwesie, Leader of the WNYL, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Takoradi, described the late Mr Ackah as a true statesman who dedicated his service to the development of Jomoro and the country in general.

The statement said: “His loss is not only a profound personal tragedy for his family, but also a significant loss for Jomoro and Nzemaland, and the nation at large.”

It continued: “His distinguished career in Parliament saw us having the Osagyefo Barge and electricity in Jomoro, marked by his unwavering commitment to the principles of justice, liberty, and equality.”

The statement noted the late former Jomoro MP left an indelible mark on the history of Nzemaland, adding “His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of leaders and citizens alike.”

The WNYL expressed its sympathies and condolences to the family, friends and all affected by the loss of Mr Ackah.

Mr Ackah, also an educationist, was a National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP from 1993 to 2005, making him the longest serving MP for Jomoro.

From 2013 to 2016, he served as the Chairman of the Board of Takoradi Technical University where he played a pivotal role in bringing transformation to the institution.

Ghana Irrigation Development Authority, IWMI sign MoU to deepen collaboration in sustainable water management

Ghana Irrigation Development Authority and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen collaboration and ensure sustainable water  management and irrigation practices.

The MoU, which is heavily tilted towards research, will also look at training smallholder farmers to sustainably utilize the water resources. 

Dr Martin Smith, IWMI Director General and Richard Oppong-Boateng, Acting Chief Executive Officer of GIDA, signed the deal on behalf of their institutions.

Commenting on the five-year agreement,  Mr Oppong-Boateng expressed the hope that the strategic partnerships would serve as fundamental

resource for organisations to develop and expand linkages with well-established institutions.

“Ghana has the potential to produce more and export to neighbouring countries.  We can only do that when we have sustainable water resources. Through this MOU, we are going to do a lot of research to look at how we can predict the rainfall and also how we can model our water resources,” he said.

The Authority currently manages over 180 irrigation schemes and has the vision of developing the available water resources and irrigation potential of about 1.9 million hectares for livelihood options in agriculture, (irrigation, livestock watering and aquaculture) at appropriate scales for smallholder and commercial farmers in all communities throughout the country.

“We are very grateful and happy to see the signing of the MoU and hope it will help to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 towards achieving water quality and sustainability for the

survival of people and the planet,” he said.

Mr Oppong-Boateng said the MoU would also bring on board expertise to predict with satellite imagery and modelling instead of using runoff coefficients in design of  dams. 

Also, the MoU will  help to mitigate the effect of climate change through the use of climate smart technologies, placing a limit on water usage and still have high production levels. 

“If we don’t manage our resources well, we will not be able to have water to produce food. So, for the small-holder farmer who doesn’t know anything about water conservation through this capacity building training, we will be able to tell them and even train them how they should use their water resources.”

On his part, Dr Smith said the MoU would deepen and make closer the strategic partnership IWMI have with the Ghana Irrigation Development 

Authority.

He said the two institutions had a shared objective to support the development of irrigation in Ghana to make sure it was sustainable and inclusive as well as productive.

Dr Smith said IWMI had been working in Ghana for the last 20 years on water management and irrigation development in a whole variety of respects that met maximum potential for supporting and strengthening farmers, their livelihoods and their families’ well-being. 

On measuring the impact of the project, Dr Smith said the partners would clearly want to see that “a partnership like this is really driving change and driving impacts, especially impacts in policy and investment and the way that works.”

Also, impact on the ground that makes a real difference in people’s lives.

He said to implement the joint activities with GIDA,

there was quite comprehensive monitoring frameworks for tracking the results and the impacts of our programmes together. 

“So, we’ll be sure to have a strong evidence-based story to tell about the success, we hope, of this partnership,” Dr Smith added.

He said IWMI was focused on driving change in water management that makes a difference in people’s lives through more formalized training approaches that we would build into different projects and also through partnerships that work from the ground through institutions, whether local water management institutions or district level water management institutions.

Dr Olufunke Cofie, IWMI West Africa Regional Representative, said the Institute was proud about co-developing innovations with stakeholders and beneficiaries, including smallholder farmers, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations that are working with farmers as well.

“So, we’ve co-developed two innovations. One is

about transforming waste into fertilizer, which we have done together and it’s being commercialized,” she said.

Dr Cofie said IWMI continued to use its expertise to support the efforts of the government to take irrigation to the next level, to expand the area of irrigation, and to improve irrigation practices, particularly in the northern area where they only have opportunity to cultivate once a year.

“There’s a need to improve the income and livelihoods of smallholder farmers by helping them with innovations, technologies, practices that they can draw on water whether it’s surface water or groundwater resources, to use it to have dry season production systems.  We help people to be more engaged, we help people to generate income,” she added.

The occasion was also used to showcase the activities of IWMI to stakeholders in areas such as

agricultural water management and irrigation, drawing attention to faecal sludge management,

strengthening individual and institutions,

contributing to their capacity through graduate studies, facilitating policy dialogue, contributing knowledge, evidence-based knowledge into policy processes, either in the agricultural sector or 

in the water and sanitation sector, something that we have been actively doing in Ghana.

Stakeholders also had a virtual reality experience.

Ten African countries to battle for cultural “Domination” in Uganda – AMC

Ten finalists out of 2,000 applicants from across Africa are set to converge in Uganda for the much-anticipated Africa Monologue Challenge (AMC) 2024.

The finalists are Agume Mark, Uganda; Delove Augustt, Ghana; Ijeoma Grace Agu, Nigeria; Noluthando Shandu, South Africa; Kelvin Maxwell Ngoma, Malawi; Maud Guerard, Ivory Coast; Esther Wanjiru, Kenya; Chimwemwe Chipidza, Zimbabwe; Jang Afanyuh Gehnjang, Cameroon; and Chadzanso Mwenda, Zambia.

“Mr Mawuko Kuadzi, the Chief Executive Officer of MK Casting, described the finalists as “eloquent storytellers” who would engage in a healthy contest to market their countries’ unique culture.

He said: “Representing the spirit of their nations, these eloquent storytellers will engage in a healthy contest to determine who can best market their country’s unique culture through the art of monologue,”

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Kuadzi stated that the AMC was not just a competition; but a celebration of African diversity, adding that; “As the finalists take up residence in the Pan African house, they will live out the differences and similarities of their cultures.

“From the fiery jollof battles to the rich flavours of East and Southern African cuisines and the opportunities in their home countries, the event promises to be a feast for the senses and a testament to the joy of unity in diversity.”

Mr Kuadzi said: “Uganda, known as the Pearl of Africa, extends its renowned hospitality as the host country for this year’s AMC. The global audience is in for a treat as they witness the finalists, each a remarkable talent from their respective countries, share interesting, exciting, and educational experiences.

Mr Dwomoh-Doyen Benjamin, the Executive Director of the African Chamber of Content Producers, revealed that the AMC 2024 was a beacon for cultural exchange, illuminating the diverse dynamics of African cultures to a global audience, fostering understanding and appreciation across continents.

He said the event was poised to generate significant economic activity, driving tourism and local business patronage, and creating a ripple effect that benefits multiple sectors.

“The AMC champions the message of unity in diversity, resonating with global audiences and promoting a shared sense of humanity.

“The finalists, as ambassadors of their cultures, will have the opportunity to forge international connections, opening doors to cross-border collaborations and innovations,” he stated.

Mr Benjamin said the competition happening in Uganda under the auspices of the Uganda Communications Commission offers an unparalleled educational experience, providing insights into African history, languages, and social dynamics, enriching the global narrative on cultural heritage.

He stated that the stakes are high, as the ultimate champion would not only claim the title but also earn the honour of hosting the next Monologue Challenge in their home country.

Additionally, a Pan African film would be produced in the winner’s country, starring the victor and supported by the other finalists. Alongside these prestigious opportunities, the winner will also receive exciting cash prizes and more.

He said the journey to this stage had been rigorous, with the 10 finalists emerging from a pool of 2,000 entries over 10 months of evictions.

The AMC, an initiative of MK Casting in partnership with the African Chamber of Content Producers and the National Film Authority of Ghana, will this year operate under the auspices of the Uganda Communications Commission.

Mr Benjamin said the organizers were actively engaging with various African governments to garner support for their finalists, ensuring that each participant was backed by their nation as they step onto this Pan African stage.

The organizers also stated that they were in talks with various Pan African businesses and institutions to support and sponsor this year’s AMC to benefit from the global visibility the challenge will provide.

Sporting Lisbon are likely to see a plethora of players follow Ruben Amorim in quitting the club in wake of his appointment as the next Liverpool boss with the process of landing him set to reach the next stage and with a report detailing the star he has selected as his first signing at Anfield.

The Merseysiders will bid an emotional goodbye to Jurgen Klopp in under a month’s time as arguably the most charismatic and one of the most successful managers in their history prepares to flee the nest. In just short of nine years at the Anfield helm, the German has won seven trophies and reached four major European finals in what has been a truly memorable period of their history.

And after Sunday’s 3-1 win at Fulham lifts Liverpool back up to second in the table, just behind Arsenal on goal difference, it remains to be seen if Liverpool can sign off on the Klopp era with a second Premier League title triumph of his era.

Certainly the Reds players will do their all and it seems they are now over what was described as the “stress” his impending departure was having on his squad.

As a result, Liverpool will try to win the five remaining matches they have left under Klopp before the 54-year-old rides off into the Majorcan sunset, where he will enjoy a long rest at his luxury villa on the island.

Behind the scenes, work is furiously going on at landing Klopp’s successor in the Anfield dug-out, with CEO of football Michael Edwards soon hoping to reach a decision on the next man in charge.

Next Liverpool boss: Ruben Amorim set to hold Anfield interview

And while the Reds have already received one major knockback after Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, their hunt has fixed firmly on one major name in the form of Amorim.

The Sporting Lisbon coach has an equally-impressive record in the Portuguese capital, boasting a ridicuclous 70.79% win record as manager.

And while Amorim has twice come out in public to deny claims he is set to succeed Klopp as Liverpool boss, the 39-year-old is regarded as the favourite for the job.

However, the Reds do have other candidates in mind, with former Croatia and Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac, as well as wily Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini among those also recently touted for the job.

Nonetheless, the Liverpool chief intends to take his hunt for their next boss to the next stage, with journalist Ben Jacobs claiming Amorim is now set to be handed a secret interview by the Reds over the upcoming vacancy.

“It is normal to look at a wide array of candidates, which is why Liverpool didn’t put all of their eggs in the Xabi Alonso basket. Even now, they have not put all of their eggs towards Ruben Amorim despite it being obvious that he is going to get an interview,” Jacobs told Givemesport.

“It is obvious that he is a leading candidate, but he is not the only candidate.

“That is how Liverpool work, and it is smart because if you don’t do your full due diligence, and you’re not open to different opinions and, ultimately, candidates, you are probably not going to end up picking the right one to replace Jurgen Klopp and whoever replaces him has got big shoes to fill.”

Amorim picks first Liverpool signing – report

In order to tempt Amorim to Anfield, it is claimed Liverpool will first need to meet his sizeable exit clause – set at an estimated €10m (£8.5m) for clubs in the ‘elite’ bracket – while also handing him a sizeable transfer kitty.

TEAMtalk also understands that the offer of a three-year deal is on the table for Amorim at Liverpool should he accept the role.

In terms of that transfer warchest, it’s believed the Reds will grant Amorim significant funds to strengthen his squad, with a new centre-half and another attacker right at the front of his thinking.

The need for a new central defender – and in particular a left-sided one – is well documented, with Joel Matip set to leave Liverpool as a free agent this summer and with Virgil van Dijk not getting any younger and turning 33 over the summer.

That hunt appears to have focused on three players, in Piero Hincapie and two from Sporting Lisbon in Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio.

And with the Daily Mail now claiming that Amorim’s exit at Sporting CP is set to lead to a mass exodus of their star players, it appears the coach is intent on ensuring at least one of those, in Diomande, is to follow him to Anfield.

Indeed, it is now claimed that the Ivory Coast international is being tipped to become Amorim’s first signing as Reds boss. Handpicked by the manager himself, the 20-year-old has established himself as one of the game’s outstanding young defenders this season.

Liverpool should be able to rely on Luis Diaz next season as Fabrizio Romano has attempted to end all speculation he will be joining one of Europe’s most illustrious clubs this summer.

Diaz has enjoyed another good season at Liverpool, having registered 13 goals and four assists in 46 games from left wing. The attacker could have been more clinical at times, but he remains a fan-favourite at Anfield as he is one of the most exciting players in England.

Liverpool left Tottenham Hotspur stunned when they won the race for Diaz in January 2022, though the Reds have learned that the 27-year-old is now picking up rival interest.

Spanish titans Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, have been linked with moves for Diaz.

The player’s father has even hinted that he wants to see his son shining for either Barca or Madrid in the near future.

Over the weekend, reports in Spain claimed that signing Diaz remains a top objective for Barca chiefs.

But according to an update from Romano, there are two reasons why the electric Colombian will be staying put this summer.

“We’ve had fresh rumours about Luis Diaz reportedly wanting to join Barcelona from Liverpool,” Romano told the Daily Briefing.

“This is not what I’m hearing, though – Diaz is [a] crucial player for Liverpool and also, for Barca to pay for a player like Diaz with their Financial Fair Play situation… I think that could be quite difficult.”

Liverpool paid Porto an initial £37.5million – potentially rising to £50m through add-ons – to sign Diaz over two years ago. They would want far more than that £50m sum to sell him and Barca will clearly struggle to meet those demands.

Even if Diaz does eventually push for a move to La Liga, Liverpool are in a strong negotiating position as his contract runs until the summer of 2027.

Manchester United chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe has contacted Thomas Tuchel as part of his aim to replace Erik ten Hag this summer, according to reports.

Ten Hag had come under pressure earlier in the season when Man Utd were knocked out of both the Champions League and League Cup, vastly reducing their chances of winning a trophy. Ten Hag’s side have since qualified for the FA Cup final, though the all-time classic against Coventry City did little to enhance the Dutchman’s reputation.

Despite being 3-0 up after 70 minutes, Man Utd allowed Coventry to get back into the match. The Championship outfit left Man Utd stunned when they brought it back to 3-3 in stoppage time, taking the semi-final to extra time.

Coventry thought they had won it at the death when Victor Torp converted from Haji Wright’s through ball, but Man Utd were given a lifeline thanks to an offside call from VAR.

The Red Devils eventually won the clash on penalties, setting up another FA Cup final against local rivals Manchester City, though Ten Hag will be very frustrated that his players did not get the job done inside 90 minutes.

Ratcliffe and new technical director Jason Wilcox were among those present at Wembley, and they will not have liked what they saw.

It is increasingly likely that Ratcliffe will sack Ten Hag this summer, with Man Utd still way off English rivals such as City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

As per German journalist Georg Holzner, who works for Kicker, Ratcliffe is already taking steps to replace Ten Hag.

Thomas Tuchel a concrete target for Man Utd 

The British billionaire has initiated contact with departing Bayern Munich boss Tuchel to see if he would be open to becoming Man Utd’s new manager.

Ratcliffe rates Tuchel ‘highly’ and has asked if he will ‘commit’ to Man Utd ahead of next season. The German is currently weighing up whether to accept Ratcliffe’s offer.

There has been talk of Tuchel performing a huge U-turn and potentially staying at Bayern, despite both parties previously agreeing to part ways.

However, Holzner confirms that Tuchel will definitely leave Bayern in the summer, allowing Man Utd to get their man.

Tuchel is not the only manager Man Utd are interested in, as they are also keeping tabs on Roberto De Zerbi, Gareth Southgate and Thiago Motta.

But Tuchel’s pedigree, having won the Champions League with Chelsea, makes him the preferred candidate.

iPhone exposes alleged robbers

Three persons who allegedly robbed a Quantity Surveyor at his residence at Anyaa and made away with his mobile phone and other electrical gadgets have been put before an Accra Circuit Court.

 Richard Garbah, an Okada rider, Joseph Atiogbe, aka Jazzy a trader, and one Obed, aka Tinny now at large, were exposed after the complainant’s iPhone 14  Pro Max was tracked and retrieved from Stephen Morrison, an accountant and the fourth accused person.

Morrison is said to have told the Police that the iPhone was sold to him by Atiogbe.

Garbah, Atiogbe and Obed have been jointly charged with conspiracy and robbery.

Morrison was charged with dishonestly receiving.

Atiogbe and Morrison, who were present in court, pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs Afia Owusuaa Appiah remanded Atiogbe into police custody and granted Morrison bail in the sum of GHC50,000 with two sureties to be justified.

The court has adjourned the matter to May 8, 2024

The prosecution led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Evans Kesse said the complainant’s name, withheld, was a Quantity Surveyor residing at Anyaa.

It said on July 27, 2023, at about 1:30 am  Garbah, Atiogbe and Obed armed with cutlasses, broke into the apartment of the complainant, who lived alone at Anyaa.

The court heard that the three accused person assaulted the complainant and robbed him of his iPhone 14 Pro Max valued 25,000, Alcatel Smart phone valued GHC 1,500, iPod valued $99, TCL 55 inches television valued GHC10, 740, a decoder valued GHc250 and cash of GHC3,500.

The prosecution said the accused person forced the complainant to give them his iPhone password and thereafter locked him up in his bedroom and bolted with the booty.

The prosecutor said the complainant raised the alarm and a neighbour opened the door from the kitchen.

It said the complainant reported the matter to the Police.

During investigations, the prosecution said the iPhone of the complainant was tracked by the Police and the same was retrieved from Morrison.

It said Morrison told the Police that he bought the phone from Atiogbe at GHC8,000.

Police intelligence led to the arrest of Garbah who had on him the complainant’s Alcatel phone.

According to the prosecution, Garbah said he also got the phone from Atiogbe who was then at large.

On March 23, 2024, Atiogbe was also arrested and during interrogation, he admitted selling the iPhone to Morrison.

The prosecution said Atiogbe  disclosed that he bought the phone from Garbah and one Obed, aka Tinny who is at large.

The prosecutor said investigations so far had revealed that it was Garbah, Atiogbe, Obed who went to complainant’s house and robbed him of his items on July 23, 2023.

Contractor arraigned over assault

A 26-year-old contractor has been arraigned for allegedly assaulting a man with a pinch bar.

Prince Ayivor has denied assaulting his victim, Tanko Seidu and was admitted to GHC10,000.00 bail with two sureties.

The Pakyi District Court presided over by Madam Dora Nsiah Jackson ordered that Ayivor deposited his Ghana card with the Court’s registry.

He is to make his next appearance on May 2, 2024.

Police Chief Inspector Christian Amartey told the Court that Seidu, the victim and complainant, was a straighter resident at Trede whilst Ayivor, the accused person, was a contractor resident at Nkoransah.

On March 1, 2023, at about 1200 hours, the complainant was returning from a site on motor bicycle and on reaching Trede Four Junction, he had a phone call and parked his motor bicycle by the roadside to receive the call, the Court heard.

The prosecution said whilst receiving the call, the accused person who was putting up a structure opposite the road, who had some issues with the complainant months ago, started questioning him why he was looking at him.

Chief Inspector Amartey said the complainant asked the accused person how he also managed to know he was staring at him.

That did not go down well with the accused person, who went in for a pinch bar to assault the victim.

Chief Inspector Amartey said the complainant reported the incident to Trede Police and was issued with police medical form to attend hospital for examination, treatment, and report.

The Court heard that the accused person was arrested and handed over to the police.

Investigation cautioned statement was obtained from accused and after investigation, he was charged with the offence to appear before court.
