CodeRaccoon: German tech company offers Ghanaian IT professionals remote work opportunity

A German Information Technology (IT) outsourcing company, CodeRaccoon, is offering talented Ghanaian IT professionals remote work opportunities.
Eleven software developers have already been recruited as the company plans to expand its operations locally.

The company outlined its vision and objectives at an interactive session in Accra, Tuesday.
Mr Jorn Jalsinger, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CodeRaccoon, noted that the demand for IT professionals exceeded supply, hence the move to absorb local talents.
The company’s footprint in Ghana was a proof that “talent is not confined by location,” as globalisation and increasing population provided more avenues for collaboration, he said.
“Germany, like many other countries, faces a challenge…The demand for IT professionals far exceeds the supply…,” Mr Jalsinger said.
“At the same time, here in Ghana, we see a young, dynamic generation ready to prove itself – full of ideas, full of ambition, full of talent. Yet, too often, opportunities are limited…We want to change that!”
He described CodeRaccoon as “a bridge” between Ghana and Germany, and a link between “talented developers and companies searching for the best solutions.”
“We are not just creating jobs – we are building careers, opportunities, and long-lasting partnerships.”
The CEO said Africa and Ghana needed to be a part the “digital revolution,” which seemed to have been dominated by the Global North.
“Our vision is clear: We want to be a company that doesn’t just write code but also writes history. A history of success, growth, and mutual respect,” he emphasised.
The recruits would be provided the requisite training as the company continued to work with local partners to argument the staff strength.
“After six months, we decide if this is a working model or we would have to adjust…if we can increase then we can scale up to 40 resources, another test period of one year and we would like to increase to 500 within three to five years,” he explained.
Dr Michael Blank, the Head of Delegation, German Industry and Commerce in Ghana, commended the move and urged young people to take advantage of the opportunity.
“The young Ghanaians who have been employed here don’t have to leave the country…sometimes people prefer to stay in their home countries…If you are in the IT sector, it does make a difference…and I think CodeRaccoon is a good business model,” he said.
He added that the German business community in Ghana would continue to connect professionals and create opportunities for citizens.
Mr Daniel Opare Addo and David Asiamah, employees of the CodeRaccoon, shared their excitement about the opportunity, indicating that they look forward to growing with the company.

President Mahama appoints Dr Bissiw Administrator of Minerals Development Fund

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw as the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund.
A source at the Presidency confirmed Dr Bissiw’s appointment to the Ghana News Agency.
The Minerals Development Fund Act, 2016, (ACT 912) was passed by Parliament on the 29th of March 2016, specifically to ensure true improvement in the standard of living within Mining Communities across the country affected by mining operations.
Dr Bissiw is currently serving as the National Women Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She is a former Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture and a former Member of Parliament for Tano South.
Dr Bisiw was born in Techimantia in the then Brong Ahafo Region.
She received her senior high-school education at Kumasi Girls Secondary School, and later acquired a scholarship to study in Cuba, where she graduated as a Veterinary Doctor (1999).
Upon returning to Ghana, Bissiw worked with Veterinary Hospitals and collaborated on projects between Ghana and Cuba. 
In 2008 she became active in politics.
She rose from being a member of the NDC Manifesto Committee (2008) to become the Deputy Minister of State (Ministry of Water Resources, Works, and Housing (MWRWH) (2009), Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Tano South (2012 – 2017).

Central Regional Minister woos investors to the region

Mr Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, the Central Regional Minister, has implored investors to take advantage of the numerous investment opportunities in the region to invest and create jobs for accelerated development. 

He said visiting and exploring investible areas such as tourism, agribusiness and industrialisation would be a win-win move for mutual gain. 
Additionally, the region’s strategic location between Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi could foster business growth and sustainability. 
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after a staff durbar at the Regional Coordinating Council on Wednesday, the Minister said: “my doors are always open to all.  
“I’m determined to bring sustainable development to the people I serve. I’m calling on local and foreign investors to reach out to the Council for support in any sector.” 
Mr Eduamoah said his developmental agenda for the region was to empower businesses, promote agriculture, agribusiness, health, education, industrialisation and roads. 
He said the youth of Ghana were the country’s greatest asset and therefore, he would lead to build an economy that offered them opportunities to thrive, not just survive.  
“We will invest in education, entrepreneurship, and technology to harness their potentials to drive a brighter future for them,” he said. 
Mr Eduamoah also stated that with the requisite institutions in place, electrical issues, roads, and the current water shortage in the area, would be solved. 
“I’m aware of the water shortage and other challenges in the region, and I need your support to remedy the situation. Governance is a shared responsibility,” he added. 
The Minister said he was of the conviction that the region’s vast arable lands, significant tourism potential, its status as the cradle of education and industrious human resources, provided a strong foundation for economic transformation but not poverty. 
“I don’t know where the narrative of our region being poor emanated from and who did the research because it can’t be true based on our endowment. Our region is not poor because we have major education institutions here and it is the tourism hub of Ghana so we can’t be poor,” he indicated. 
Earlier during a staff durbar, he urged all staff to exhibit high level of discipline and efficiency in the discharge of their duties. 
He was concerned that negative work attitude by Ghanaians was affecting socio-economic development of the country. 
The staff should, consequently, eschew negative work attitudes such as lateness, lack of teamwork and procrastination that negatively impacted productivity. 
Particularly, he called on all the staff to show commitment to punctuality, stressing that time consciousness was one of the cardinal attitudes that needed to be encouraged in Ghana to drive national progress and growth. 
Mr Bless Darkey, Acting Regional Coordinating Director, on behalf of all staff pledged to work diligently for accelerated development across the region. 

Gov’t must explore diplomatic financing options, tap into Stabilisation Fund – Prof Gatsi

The government has been advised to urgently explore other diplomatic sources of financing apart from the United States and draw some money from the Ghana Stabilisation Fund (GSF).  
This is to help reduce the burden particularly on Ghana’s health sector, which has suffered a US$78.2 million out of a total of US$156m funding gap created by the withdrawal of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) support.   
Professor John Gatsi, the Dean, University of Cape Coast (UCC) Business School, said this in an exclusive interview with the Ghana News Agency.  
This comes on the back of President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, to take immediate actions to close the funding gap.  
He said the situation called for “critical thinking into exploring all avenues of financing the needs of our people. The first thing that should be happening now is to broaden our scope of engagement within the diplomatic communities.”  
“The Government must scale-up what we get from Norway, UK, and other countries, and even countries that have not been supporting us. This is the time to be aggressive in contacting them to see how they can scale up their support to Ghana,” Prof Gatsi said.  
He called for a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in achieving that goal.  
A leaked memo in the international cycles has indicated a restoration of USAID support to some “strategic countries,” but it remains unknown if Ghana is part of those.  
Prof Gatsi said while the country waited to get more details on the “strategic countries,” it could draw some money from the Ghana Stabilisation Fund, which receives 30 per cent of the country’s petroleum revenue.  
The Reconciliation Report on the Petroleum Holding Fund presented to Parliament by the Finance Ministry showed that at the end of 2023, the closing balance of the Fund was US$190.38 million.  
“The Stabilisation Fund under the Petroleum Revenue Management tells us that we can take some money from that Fund to support the economy in terms of acute difficulty. So, we should be targeting to get some money to support the economy regarding this shortfall,” he said.  

President Mahama departs for Germany

President John Dramani Mahama Wednesday afternoon left Accra for the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

The President, who will be away from February 12 to Monday, February 17, will also be attending the African Union (AU) Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.


Speaking to the press prior to the President’s departure, at the Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications, said President Mahama was the Chairman of the Tana Forum, a security think tank concerned about evolving strategies to enhance African security.


He said in a fast-evolving complex geopolitical environment where security was high on the agenda, it was necessary for the voices of prominent African leaders to be heard on the subject.
He said President Mahama would be participating in the opening forum of the Munich Security Conference.


He said while in Munich, the President was scheduled to have bilateral discussions with a number of world leaders and organizations on a broad range of issues, mostly centring on mutual cooperation between Ghana and the respective countries and how they could strengthen ties with the international community in general.
Mr Ofosu said in addition to that, the President would be speaking at a side event organized by the TANA Forum.
“And as chair, he will be outlining his vision and perspectives on the emerging security challenges on the continent and beyond,” Mr Ofosu said.

President Mahama orders investigations into National Service Authority ghost names scandal

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), to conduct immediate investigations into the operations of the National Service Authority under the previous Akufo-Addo’s Government. 


This follows the discovery of up to 81,885 suspected ‘ghost names’ on the payroll of the Authority. 
In a statement issued by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications, copied to the Ghana News Agency, he said the ghost names were detected following a head count of active National Service personnel at the behest of the Minister of Finance as a prerequisite for the clearance of allowance arrears dating back to August, 2024.  


It said the Ministry of Finance had upon the completion of the head count, released an amount of GHS 226,019,224 covering allowance payment arrears for 98,145 actual National Service Personnel.  
“This figure is 81,885 less than the 180,030 names presented by the previous management of the Authority for allowance payment in 2024,” it said. 


The statement said President Mahama had also tasked the new management of the Authority to carry out urgent reforms, with the view to establishing adequate controls to prevent a recurrence of the phenomenon of ghost names.  

Court denies two bails over alleged robbery at Abura.

The Cape Coast Circuit Court II has remanded two unemployed men Adjei Mensah, 20 and Philip Ackon, 25 into police custody for allegedly robbing two sisters at knife point at Abura, a suburban Cape Coast.  

The accused persons reside at Abura Baaware, a suburb of Cape Coast. 

The Court presided over by Ms Nana Aba Kwaiba Nunoo, had earlier granted the two bails in the sum of 10,000 Cedis with three sureties each, but they could not fulfil the bail terms.  

They will make their next appearance on Friday, February 28.  

Narrating the case to the court, the Prosecutor, Inspector Joseph Laare, said the complainant, Ms Rosemary Bortier, 19 years old is a shop attendant and a resident of Abura Academy.  

He said on Tuesday October 24, last year at about 07:05 hours, the complainant had closed from work and was walking to the station to board a car together with her elder sister, Ms Olivia Bortier. 

He said Adjei Mensah who was hiding in the bush along the road near Abura market, suddenly came out, pulled out a knife and attacked Rosemary demanding her phone. 

Inspection Laare said Ackon also appeared at the scene, held Olivia that enabled Mensah to forcefully take Rosemary’s Tecno Spark seven valued at GHC 2,000.  

Rosemary identified Mensah and mentioned his name, but he held her left finger, twisted it, and bolted with the phone.  

The Prosecutor said Rosemary and Olivia run to the community and shouted for help and residents came out to assist them to report the case the same day at Abura Police Station where a police medical form was issued to her for medical treatment.  

On Tuesday, October 31, last year Mensah and Ackon were arrested from their hide-outs while the mobile phone was retrieved at Akotokyir through police intelligence.  

However, frantic efforts are being made to arrest the dishonest receiver of the phone who is currently at large.  

Oguaamanhen appeals for helipad or aerodrome in Cape Coast if Cargo Airport is not feasible.

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area has appealed to the government to construct a helipad or aerodrome in Cape Coast if the proposed Cargo Airport was technically not feasible in the historic Central Regional capital. 

He said an airport in Cape Coast, a nexus for tourism, education, and trade, will improve connectivity and reduce travel time for both domestic and international tourists and businesspeople. 

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, announced during the launch of the New Patriotic Party’s 2020 manifesto in Cape Coast his government’s committed to constructing a new harbour and airport in Cape Coast to boost tourism and development. 

 He emphasised that Cape Coast’s location between Greater Accra and Kumasi made it a hub for economic activity and an airport would further drive infrastructural growth, but that dream was not fulfilled. 

Nonetheless, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta in an interaction with the new Regional Minister, Mr Ekow Payin Eduamoah at his Emintsimadze Palace on Tuesday, regretted the previous government’s move to construct the proposed Cape Coast Airport near Komenda. 

He could not fathom why a Cape Coast Airport would be built in Komenda in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality having advocated as such for two decades. 

He said: “We have made a request for an airport to be built in Cape Coast, but we were told at a meeting at the Coordinating Council sometime back the facility has been taken to Komenda.”  

“Baffled by the explanation, I enquired from them if the people of Komenda have made such a request, and they said no. 

“We made the request so if for any technical reasons making an airport in Cape Coast is impossible, it is only prudent and fair we are given prior notice if an appropriate measure could be worked out but that was not done. 

“If the length of the runway among others makes it impossible in Cape Coast, then give us a helipad or an aerodrome, that is our request to you.” 

The visit served as an opportunity for the Minister to officially introduce himself to the Oguaa Traditional Council and the people before commencing his duties. 

In appreciation and honour of the visit, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta committed the Traditional Council’s support to the new Minister to spearhead development across the region, with Cape Coast as the prime focus. 

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta however, regretted how some government officials and high-profile dignitaries often visited the regional capital without paying homage to the traditional authority in the community saying, “that is a sidestep of our culture and traditions.” 

“Let us not allow the foreign culture influence destroy our beautiful culture. It is improper to disregard the chiefs and people in this regard. 

“We are Ghanaians, and our culture should not be trivialised or traded for anything, else we lose our identity,” he advised. 

Mr Eduamoah, in a brief remark strongly refuted the pervasive “poverty tag” associated with the region, urging residents to work together to reverse that long-standing narrative.

With a focus on inclusivity and equal access to opportunities, he promised to address the pressing concerns of unemployment and skills mismatch that had for long plagued the youth of the region. 

“We are intentional about job creation. It is not about how many factories government will set up but being intentional to support productive ventures of all people regardless of political inclination. 

“Our land is good for many crops including coconut so if you support us, instead of weeds, there will be coconut. We will make sure every vacant land is occupied with a crop.  

“This will make our food crops to attract and retain investment for economic growth,” he said. 

He intimated that “until we focused on our gains and build this nation together, we would always be blaming a group of people without focusing on what we could achieve if we come together and contributed our quota to developing Ghana.” 

“Governance is a shared responsibility and the earlier we as citizens and politicians look at Ghana at the bigger picture against our parochial interest, the better it will be for all of us,’’ Mr Eduamoah added. 

Unidentified thugs attack, disrupt Ashanti regional council of state elections

Kumasi Feb. 11, GNA – Unidentified thugs have invaded the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, where the council of state elections is taking place destroying ballot papers and election process. 

They attacked any person on sight, destroyed the ballot boxes, tables, chairs, before and ballot papers in the process. 

Scores of people, including journalists, have been injured in the disturbances, were carried out in the full glare of security personnel. 

The counting of the ballots has been halted, and the security personnel have now taken over control. 

The voting process has been peaceful from the beginning till the end. 

However, in the course of sorting the ballot, the thugs from nowhere invaded the centre, attacked officials and destroyed everything on sight. 

The Police has not been able to arrest any of them as at the time of filing this report.
